Hi I was offered it for my arthritis. After the rheumy consultant. Said one of the side effects could be damage to the lungs.i refused to take it. As I already have damaged lung. With having COPD. And didn't want to chance it. Or make my lungs any worse than what they are you have to have regular blood tests with taking this medication as it could also damage your liver.
Yes ..They did talk about side affects so i was really concerned and wanted to ask some of you guys
I refused it for my lungs as I was in my 30s at the time and you can't get pregnant if you're on it. My friend has been on its for crohns. It's supposed to be very effective but like all drugs has side effects. Do your research and decide what is best for you xx
I have been on Methotrexate for about eight years now. I started it before I got my lung disease having being diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. I am on a relatively low dose of eight milligrams a week. The only side effect I had was the many mouth ulcers that would spring up in my mouth causing quite a bit of discomfort, so my dose was adjusted. I think many people take it long term with no problems. It really is case by case and it depends how well your body can tolerate it. Always let your doctor know if you feel some adverse effect. They can advise you on what to do. I know it is frightening. But you will get used to it. Let us know how you go.
They will probably give you something but it needs to work with your current meds I expect. When is the next appointment for you to discuss the sarcoid treatment?
I have been on it for 8 weeks along with steroids , no side affects yet, bloods taken every two weeks no issues with the results, my breathlessness seem to not be so bad , so I am happy to carry on taking them at the moment .
Methotrexate is a chemotherapy drug. Make sure you have regular blood tests ie liver function. As well as damaging lungs it can also damage other organs.
I was on it for 7 weeks. All the blood tests were ok but I found it made me very tired to the point of just sitting in a chair for 2 days with more breathlessness. I have been changed to mycophenalate this week. It works in a similar way switching off an autoimmune response.
