I don't think they can tell for sure if it's cancer from an x-ray. If they thought it was they'd do a bronchoscopy to confirm.
And they'll usually send a consultants opinion/interpretation of the x-ray to your GP, not the image itself.
Firstly, you are a patient and what you and your doctors discuss is confidential. Whether GP or Consultant. Just to calm yourself you could always tell each doc that you are worried about your husband finding out and you don't want him to know. This will then be put in your Notes.
As for identifying a cancer, that usually requires a biopsy. A minute piece of tissue is usually tested to find out if it is cancer, and if so, what type.

My small dots meant bronchiectasls or it could be another mycobacterium infection. You would have a biopsy for cancer.
These dots may just be lung nodules which are usually not cancer. The consultant told me that about 50% of the population have them. Is your husband scheduled for a bronchoscopy. They found these on my ct scan and I am due for another scan and bronchoscopy. Try not to worry but that is easier said than done. Good luck, thinking of you.
