Has anyone had bullae removed?
Do you want an explanation of how bullectomy is done as a surgical procedure or what to expect in hospital?
Expect to be in hospital for 2-3 days, but it depends on your recovery.
The most frequent complication ( although most people don't have serious complications) is leakage of air from the chest tube, especially if you have existing lung disease, if this happens the chest tube stays in longer, thus extended hospital stay. Then there's the standard risk of infection following surgery. You'll probably be given antibiotic prophylaxis.
You'll be kept a close eye on. They'll manage any pain/discomfort.
You'll have small incision wounds and stitches from the chest tube. This will all be managed by the nurses. These are very minor.
What to expect is not an easy question to answer as I don't know your individual circumstances and everyone's experience and expectations are different. Just go with it. You'll have a pre-assessment where they'll do some tests and there'll be the opportunity to ask questions about specific queries you may have.
Thanks, I was more curious about the recovery because I have a toddler at home and need to make arrangements.
Hi, I would have someone at home with you for the first 3 days, ideally the first week. But, it really depends how well you recover. There's no set standard.
