Pulmary exercise

I know I am in stage two copd & I keep hearing about pulmary exercise and high protein diet but as yet my practice nurse has not mentioned any of this. I know I have to see a cardiogist in October for high blood pressure, but I am suppressed it has not been mentioned.

Your GP should refer you to PR so ask him to do that. Good luck Mick. Xxx

Hi Mick, with 16 years copd experience under my belt, Im not at all surprised PR hasn't been mentioned to you. We need to be as proactive as possible in getting our needs met. GPs are very variable in their awareness of what is needed to maintain the best health possible for people with copd. We need to be our own advocates with this condition. Not all areas have PR, which is pretty disgusting since it has the best evidence base for keeping us well. I hope yours does have it and really you should also be able to see a pulmonary consultant too, or at the very least a specialist respiratory nurse. A standard practice nurse isn't sufficient for your medical needs.
