Is Mr Moriarty a registered builder Vashti and has he worked for anybody in the locality that you could chat to ? There's an awful lot of cowboys going around these days especially in rural areas. Sorry to be the voice of boring practicality but having experienced three different sets of builders, over the years, I've learned to treat them with caution. They're slippery customers at the best of times and make sure you have every detail of the work on paper, itemised and costed.
I've come across a few of them too Malcolm. You can't take your eyes of them.
I have got to agree with billiejwan 2 I had a builder to do a wet room and a kichen for me a few years ago now both extensions have gone and I but my own up as I got all the trade people I needed when I was ready for them now I have bigger wet room and a much bigger kichen and it has been up now 8 years and no proplams at all try and look at someone who have had work done with him as it is your. Intrest we have in hart ask him can he take you to one if he is good at his job he will not mind ( David 12 )
For. Got to tell you DO NOT GIVE HIM MONEY UP FRONT AS A GOOD BUILDER WILL NOT ASK it is nomaly half way though the work and at the end of a job then and only then do you pay .
Fingers crossed for you Vashti - have to agree with some of the dire warnings, check him out! If the price seems too good to be true it probably is; on the other hand your disasters are usually our "spit tea over the keyboard" moments. He'll probably be fine though, just keep an eye on progress.
