Spirivia is a preventer your symptoms and hopefully keep them under control and the blue one is a reliever, I've been using Spirivia for 4 years without any side effects.

It's a long acting, once a day, bronchodilator which will relax the airways and keep them open for about 24 hours. It doesn't contain a steroid. It's usually used in the morning to open the airways and for some people (me included) that's enough, then you'd use your blue reliever inhaler in addition if you need it. I use my blue one as well when the weather is colder and/or windier and I need to go out. It's not meant to be used as a rescue/reliever like Ventolin.

It also helps to strengthen your lungs on a long term basis. x

Hi, I use Spiriva 18 micro gram inhalation powder which I take through a handihaler. It's a green hard capsule of Tiotropium which is inhaled once a day.

It's a long acting bronchodilator.

I take one capsule in the handihaler every morning & it works for 24hrs.

I've never had any side effects or problems at all with it.

Hope you get on ok using it 🌷

Spiriva is the most effective long acting bronchodilator for me ... but gives me a digestion problem, so I take something else; however plenty of people are fine with it.

Hope it works great for you, best wishes.

Hi Angela

I have used it for two years with no problems, and it's very helpful.

If you have to use a handihaler, make sure you use it properly, see the diagram on the infomation sheet.

Good luck

Hi Angela, I have been taking spirava for around five years without any noticeable side effects, but if you have any side effects after use go back to your GP. I find it easy to use better than aerosol type inhalers when you have arthritic hands. Good luck with it.

I just got Spiriva recently, to have alongside my other preventers and it's awesome :D

I started on Spiriva about 6 weeks ago. I have attended the difficult asthma clinic at my local hospital for 3 years, and was up to 3 inhalers when Spiriva was prescribed. It's brilliant! I can actually walk upstairs without getting breathless. My life has changed dramatically and it must be down to the Spiriva! Now I need to work on reducing the number of inhalers.

Hi, I have used Spireva since 2004. It is an excellent 24 hour preventer for me. I do use 12 hour Sybicort alongside & other Meds. I don't have unpleasant side effects. When I started to use it, it had not been out that long. I believe it changed lives; no longer sitting by a fire all winter but for the most part & with some limitations, able to get on with our lives. Unless of course we get infections. I hope it does the same for you. Love Margaret x

Apparently, it's an inhaler for chronic chest condition.

I've taken Spiriva for about 6 years. After taking my daily dose my respiratory tract seems to tighten. Sometimes it settles during the morning other times I need to take my Ventolin to relieve the symptoms. Since Jan 1 this year I have taken it on alternate mornings without any geterioration in my condition, still get tightening but usually it settles without the Ventolin. My recent spirometry was at the level I was in 2011 and the best I've had since then. Copd nurse not concerned by alternate day use. So I would say it is very good at relieving the symptoms and a good treatment

Have been on this for about ten years brilliant no side effects.

I took Spiriva for years but not any more. I have all my own teeth so no dentures here and I found was affecting my gums. It looked like they were shrinking. I checked out this information on Google and it appears that Spiriva has cause many people to have loose teeth. Just something to keep any eye on if you're taking this medication.

Dry mouth is a possible side effect of Spiriva; that, especially in combination acid reflux, can make gums recede... as can poor dental hygiene, poor brushing technique and advancing years...

Make sure you drink plenty of liquids during the day when taking it.
