Serum Iron count on my print out (male) should be 11 to 30, but depends on measure and lab (apparently). A low count could give short of breath feeling on exertion - mine was 4 but was v. low on transferrin sats index, too, which should be 15-45.

I noticed it at the gym when on treadmill, felt like I couldn't get air in and out fast enough and exhausted quickly. I have 'mild' COPD but this was unusual.

Maybe obvious but take the iron tabs with food.

Eh? My post doesn't say anything about mine being 45, albeit it does mention transferrin saturation range 15-45.

And I did say depending on measure, but here's wiki on both..

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trans...

Normal reference ranges are:

Serum iron: 60–170 μg/dl (10–30μmol/L)

TIBC: 240–450 μg/dl

Transferrin saturation: 15–50% (males), 12–45% (females)

Hello. My advise would be to google which foods are iron rich and get those down you regularly. Or even a drink. There is a delicious carton of veg juice you can buy in many supermarkets. Called V8. It really is nice! But try more foods too. Anaemia makes you feel so tired doesn't it. Take care.

Iron rich food is unlikely to rebuild iron stores quickly enough to overcome anaemia.

Of course. I was really thinking of a longterm lifestyle change, as well as of course seeing dr. Should have made that clear..diet does count.

Have you tried taking one in the am, one in the afternoon and one at bedtime? Or one every 12 hours, that would at least double your dose. I had the same problem and "graduated "slowly and after a couple of months worked up to three a day. I also made sure I had eaten first!
