Hi Mojo, fev means "forced expiratory volume". Usually called fev, the 1 meaning one second, its a measure of how much you can blow out with one big blow in one second.

Its the main test in spirometry which indicates what stage your copd has got to.

I have had copd for 15 years and have this year been diagnosed with bronch, so Im still learning about that. There are several very well researched and well informed people on the forum with bronch so do ask anything you want about it, and any more questions about copd. More people should be along to answer them.

When you go to the GP or consultant try to take someone with you who can take notes and help you remember afterwards what happened. Make a list of the questions you want to ask beforehand. Its easy to forget things you wanted to ask, and the answers you were given too.

At 89% your oxygen level is a bit on the low side but it may come up with proper treatment.

Good luck and keep in touch. :)

Hi mojo, the British Lung Foundation web site has a lot of information on it.

Also if you live in the UK, they have a helpline you can ring for advice 03000 030 555 or by email.

When I was diagnosed I was just handed two inhalers, most of the information I got was from the BLF leaflets that I found in the hospital...this was a long time ago now and I hoped things had changed.

Take care

I found a booklet, it was written for those with bronchiectasis, however there is information which people with any kind of lung problems may find useful. See the following link;

Page 42 explains Fev1 and other abbreviations. I hope that this helps.

It is really strange when they tell you that you have copd and expect you to know what that means. It is a scary condition so i am glad i have found this site as it can be very isolating living with copd.
