Yes PIP is a stand alone benefit whether you are working, or other benefits or not on benefits at all, it doesn't matter. You get it if you meet the criteria. It is not income based and is not included for tax purposes. x

Given stuff sick people have to go threw to get pip i for one would be intrested to hear if anyone working as it given hoops criteria you have to go threw

Thanks I am only 63 and it says you have got to be 65 to claim attendance allowance or you can try for pip if you are under 65 but I don't think I am that bad to be able to claim anything

Yes you claim Attendance Allowance instead which is the same as PIP but just called a different name. The only difference is there is no mobility component to AA, only care. x

I would encourage everyone to try and claim, we have all paid in for it and the worst they can do is say no!

I agree Romfty. There's no harm in filling in the forms & seeing what happens. 😀

I have had low care for many years under dla while I worked I'm now not working and have a pip interview on the 18th, this year I've had only 20 weeks without asthma or an infection but have also had my arthritis flair up and been in real

Pain with my knee and hip under a consultant for this, and just had an MRI , it will be interesting to see what happens, as an advice worker have filled in many forms for the old dla but not pip I'm happy to take it all the way because that's what we are entitled to. I will let you know how it goes. They have cancelled an appointment already, as i have an husband with brain damage and cancer to sort out it gets difficult they told me there's no close parking lets hope there's a lift if its on the top floor x

Thank you will do

Just a quick comment about attendance allowance. I've been a Carer for my husband for several years and have never even thought about trying to claim any allowances. However, while he was seriously ill in hospital about 6 weeks ago, a student doctor asked if we were getting any help of any kind. I explained that my husband needs constant care, including during the night, and the student doctor suggested we apply for the attendance allowance. So, I duly filled in the 40-odd page form and sent it off. I realised that this couldn't be back dated so put the date of claim as being the time of my husband's discharge from hospital. About 3 weeks later, we got a letter stating that my husband qualified and that he was due an enhanced allowance because of his needs BUT there is a six months delay before it can be paid, meaning it wouldn't be paid until March next year!! As we have never claimed anything before, I had no idea that there is a waiting time - had I done, I would have explained that he had been needing care for several years and I would then not had to wait. This would have made such a difference to our financial position, I cant explain how frustrating this is. Anyway, although it's now too late for us, I just wanted to warn people about this delay before anyone else tries to claim this. Jan xx

Hi

I would ring them the firm will have asked how long the condition has required help for tell them you want to appeal as you have evidence that this condition has been the same and required help for a long time but you didn't quite understand the firm. Enclose when writing a letter of appeal a letter of evidence from your GP.

What have you got to lose.

I forgot to write I had physio on a daily basis my decision had been declined so I appealed said I was not use to claiming forms and had purely not taken physio into consideration they reversed their decision.

Sometimes we are that use to coping our daily activities become normality so it's easy not to wrote it all down.

Appeal you have nothing g to lose.

X

Hi Jan, Can you get a letter from your Consultant or GP stating how severe he is and you need the help now not March next year.

I'm Cancer stage 4 terminal and we had a D9000 not sure of the number form filled in by my Consultant, there was a mix up on the first form DWP said they didn't receive it. Filled another form and I had a nice man from DWP ring me on a Saturday morning to say I had been granted enhanced allowance and he would back date it to the first application. Twelve weeks back dated.

Don't give up. If you can't get a letter please do appeal. You need it NOW.

Love Suzyxxx

janann25 Please do not forget to notify your local council that you are a carer and that your husband will be receiving attendance allowance. this has resulted in no council tax to pay now. My husband receives at the higher rate I am his carer (no money) I receive at the lower rate.

anann25 sorry forgot to add I enclosed letters from hospital consultant and from Doctors showing that I had had the condition for two years also a letter from dietician, I did not have to wait and it was paid back to the date of my claim.

Thank you so much for your comments. I'm in a difficult situation because my husband is coping with his illness by being in denial. It took a lot of persuading before he would agree to applying for the allowance and I definitely couldn't appeal on the grounds that he is virtually terminal because it would totally destroy him. If Imcould do it without him knowing, then I would but because doctors have to be so "honest" with patients, this can't happen. I posted this because I just want to make sure that other people are aware of the rules.

Thank you again for your advice. Jan xx
