There was a time...in the dim and distant past...when I could stay up until midnight without a bother.
Reading perhaps or watching a film on television...then in the latter part of our working years we'd often need to go to meetings held in towns miles away so we'd be late coming home.
But now it's a quite different story. By eight in the evening I really need to lie down... this minute, if at all possible. Himself hears me sigh and sees me sort of wriggling about and makes up my bed on the settee...the sheer bliss of plenty of plump pillows and warm blankets.
A good book on my Kindle...one or both of the kittens lying beside me and Himself puttering away on his laptop or engrossed in a crossword...he reads out clues and I give him the answers which he invariably says are wrong...until a few minutes later when he says the word will fit now 'cos he had two down mis-spelt...
Just as I reach an exciting paragraph where the guilty party will be revealed... Himself brings me a cup of tea and the hot-water bottle and wants to change the water in my oxygen machine and asks do I remember Joe Brown and is he dead...I have my finger poised over the last word I read and the Kindle decides to turn the page and I tell him to Google Joe Brown and while he's there look for Heinz...see what happened to him, but he looks Marty Wilde up instead so I'm none the wiser...
Sometimes I go to sleep long before ten o'clock, which is a pain because I have to use my nebuliser then...it all action for half-an hour while Himself sets the nebuliser up and puts the kittens in the bathroom for the night...dogs outside for their last pee...checks the big gate is locked and the back door firmly bolted. All the plugs pulled out and a bedtime cup of tea...when it's cold and miserable outside I have hot chocolate and dash of Bushmills...
Himself is mean over the Whiskey mind you...a dash really is a dash and I have to ask for a little more please...
The dogs wander in...Bobby slides under the bed...Eilis has to be lifted onto the end of the settee where she snuffles and blows and emits foul smelling bottom burps all night...Millie clambers into the antique baby cradle at the end of the bed...she's slept in there ever since she came to us.
The oxygen machine works away...the sky through the window is full of stars and the occasional satellite...our little cottage is warm and safe.
I like you now have early bedtimes 9 o clock and I have had it, it feels so good when you just lay down then sweet sleep till 2 then listen to my radio till4 then if II am lucky sweet sleep till 6 . then up as starvey wiil be at the door wanting food sleep sweet pleasant dreams dear Vashti ♥
That sounds such a comfortable scene, vashti. I have to say I look forward to my bed around 10pm. Malcolm is never far away. I used to take a hot chocolate to bed but the sugar content kept me awake. So a herbal tea. I would have my wine earlier on - would prefer it to be bourbon but if I got some, I would want to keep drinking!! X
Who needs a kindle when u write so well and such a pleasure to read, I sit smirking as I read , then everyone's like " what " and I shake my head and say " nothing just something I'm reading " there's so much I can relate too aswel. Keep warm and safe in ur little cottage, xx Sonia xx

Joe Brown, I think he is still alive. Marty Wilde? God knows. I know that both of these gentlemen are even older than I am. Roy Orbison is dead and a lot of other greats. Always loved the Stones , The Kinks & Neil Young. These days I am into Lana Del Rey who is fabulous. Also loved Amy Winehouse. Such a bloody waste!
Your husband sounds wonderful. You are a lucky woman. Maybe you could rent him out? If I lived nearer I would definitely hire him.
I also agree about bed time. I love getting into bed about 9 pm with a hot water bottle and the cat ( I am a single/spinster lady.) I always have a book by my bed. I have a very good local library; new books galore. I now have to wear a NIPPY mask at night to get rid of the CO2 and I must say, I feel so much better the next day because now, at least I sleep at bit
Thanks for your response. It is nice that we can just please ourselves. Also good that I have to make myself do more as I live alone. With this disease, I feel that it is very important to do as much as I can otherwise...... Like you, I love books and my cat. Not saying that it is not nice to have someone but our circumstances are different and not comparable.
Hi Vashti. As far as I know Joe Brown and Marty Wilde are still alive and kicking, I saw them in concert 3 or 4 years ago. Sadly Heinz suffered from Motor Neurone Disease and died around 2000, think he was only in his early 50s. Sad to think they are all disappearing. Don't know where the years have gone!
So cosy and comfortable, your kittens warm and comfortable in the bathroom. We have a cup of tea at bedtime made by my husband. He makes the morning tea as well.
I love to snuggle into my nice warm bed with piled up pillows. I love to read my kindle. It seems to be running out of power quickly these days so i charge it daily now.

the sheer bliss of plenty of plump pillows! ok Vashti please divulge the secret of plump pillows, my pillows feel like rocks, so hard and lumpy. Ah the bliss if my pillows were plump.

I rather think the answer is to buy the very best you can afford...I used to get the cheap ones that lasted a month then went flat and horrible...since buying the more expensive sort, they last for ages and plump up beautifully!
