hello Mindy. Unfortunately, welcome. This is not a fun club, but the peeps on here are really good and sometimes make more sense than the Docs.

What sort of lung problems?

All the best Annemarie x

Hello Mindy. Welcome. I have only been on this forum for a short time but I have been bowled over by the love and support it offers. There are plenty of members with COPD, and they are very knowledgeable. living with it they are a positive mine of info.

Good luck.

Tranh123,

Welcome and take heart.

First of all, regarding consultants and team: Have you got a consultant? Can you ask him/her to refer you to the Pulmonary Nurse Team. They are extraordinary in the sense that they are down to earth, know what patients experience and can advise them in time of crisis, shortness of breath, infection, drugs, nebuliser, etc.

Second, ask if you can join the Pulmonary Rehabilitation, because you will be assessed in your capacities. They will put you on a set of exercises which would improve your condition a little and set you on the way to maintain your illness.

Exercises, whatever form it takes, is vital. I can talk more about this as I am an ardent promoter of exercises! Most of all, keep your confidence. When you encounter an infection, ask your consultant to prescribe a “rescue pack” which consists of medicine that you can use as soon as you have a bug. For instance, my consultant put me on Clarithromycin. I jump on it whenever I feel ill. It may have to be altered, for instance if the bug persists. Then have a sputum test (ask for sputum pots and forms to your consultant) to define which bug and which drug to use against it. In that way, you might avoid hospital when everybody else runs to it (usually Autumn and winter). Have confidence in yourself and you will tame the ill down. Mic
