Hyper inflated lungs

Hi, I've had this cough for going on 4 months now. My Dr. did an x-ray and said my lungs were super hyper inflated. He said there's a good chance you have copd. The Dr. that saw me is a pa. My question is should I go for a second opinion?

That's a new one, "super" Hyperinflated. Why go for a second opinion, ask why this is the case and confirmation or not with Spirometry.

Hyperinflated lungs is an incidental finding and just shows you can take a deep breath. It means nothing without a full pulmonary function test including lung volumes.

As you have not mentioned if you are a swimmer runner or someone that likes to be fit. The Xray will not say what your problem is unless there was something untoward which was not mentioned. I agree that you need to do a spirometry test to see what the function of the lung is. I had everyone but my own Doctors ask if I was a COPD sufferer. When I eventually got a spirometry test it was found I have RLD and PH to add to my other conditions.

Most GP's can do the test at their places but they may need another more accurate at the hospital.
