NIPPY MASK...

Decided to give up on the Nippy mask. After making that decision I feel less anxious about going to bed. It is a nightmare to fit and I still can't sleep and feel even worse in the morning. I never experienced headaches or had swollen ankles and apparently retained co2 (pH 7.430) only at night. A couple of nights ago I just gave in and took a sleeping pill instead and slept a few hours.

Had my oxygen concentrator serviced today and apparently the tubing was leaking about 10-20 %. That might explain why my sats were sometimes low even though was using the prescribed 1/2 litre.

Thanks to all those who replied to me.

Regards

Malinka

I am still trying to get used to my mask , I spend half the night adjusting the straps to stop the leaks . When I get a few hours it DOES WORK , I am a co2 retainer and the headaches, swollen ankles, cloudy brain are gone and I feel a lot better.

I still have the lung problems and cannot walk more than a few yards before I feel breathless but the nippy has worked for me . If you don't have the symptons I have described why are you on the nippy you never said ?

all the very best and I hope you get sorted x

Hi Barney Thanks for getting back to me.

I have severe COPD and severe Pulmonary Hypertension. I am also a Co 2 retainer but apparently only at night time. I am normally on 1/2 litre oxygen for min 15 hours daily. I was prescribed the Nippy after undergoing a sleep study test at Harefield Hospital. I don't suffer from swollen ankles or blinding headaches and although I don't sleep much at night I don't feel drowsy during the day. If could cope with the mask and it made me sleep, I would definitely perservere. But so far all I have is stress and even more breathlessness trying to sort it out and to top it all off, when the mask is on, my oxygen levels drop. I just don't know what to do? I have a lung function test next month at Harefield, hopefully, I will get some answers then.

Hi Malinka

Sorry your having a rough time , I am classed as end stage c.o.p.d I am not on oxygen. It took me months to get used to the nippy , I could not sleep and stayed on it, awake most of the time . You sound as if your having panic attacks trying to put the mask on, is there someone their to put it on for you. When I have trouble putting my mask on I ask the wife to put it on for me , by the time I am ready for bed the carbon dioxide has built up and I feel crap and cant think straight.

cheers barneyx

I am afraid it is just me and the cat. I might ask for the nasal version when I to Harefield Hospital for a lung function test next month.

Thanks for your advice.
