Sun was shining, Abscess is healing so it was time to do the Worcester River walk again.

Its roughly 2 miles down to Diglis weir and back from the old Worcester river bridge, its level tarmac all the way around and there's plenty of seats for a break.

I always start at the Swan sanctuary where you can stand and watch the swans doing their thing and then take a slow walk down to Diglis weir looking out for any wildlife on the way. There was cormorants fishing, sand martins flitting about, a heron stalking his brunch, canal long boats and rowing boats out on the river all busying about, the walk path was also busy with walkers, cyclists, disabled scooters, and joggers as usual when the sun shines.

I took it steady as it was my first walk of this distance for a while so I'm a bit out of condition, my mum came along also but even though she is over 80 with knee problems she lets me set the pace.

We had a steady stroll down to Diglis foot bridge where we cross over the river and start the return journey back up the other side. We sat for a while and watched the fishermen Salmon fishing at Diglis weir, took a few pics and then set off back towards the town where the car was parked. This is where I give my lungs a real work out and I pick up the pace a little while on 6 liters of oxygen. I walk as fast as possible so I am able to keep going but I'm slightly out of my comfort zone and keep this up for as long as I can. This is what I call real lung exercise as it works those chest muscles and clears out any gunk from the bottom of that rib cage. I always breath much easier after this and would recommend it to all you fellow sufferers if you are able to give it a try.

It took around 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours to complete the circuit, some of the joggers are lapping us many times in that time but that's life living with a lung condition as we all well know, I'm just happy to be able to still get around at what ever pace, at least I have time to stand and stair and not miss out on the many good things there are to see when the sun is shining.

As you'll see in my short video when I was doing my lung exercise bit on the return journey I was passed by Nigel Mansell out for a ride on his scooter. I wondered what he was doing in his retirement. :) .

Hi young Tony, just enjoyed the walk with you! Beautiful scenery,& your Mum looks as if she could have run it! Not to get a big head of course, but I do admire you.

So pleased the btm,is much better, hope you'll be back on the transplant list soon.

Enjoyed your pics too.

Hoping you & the child bride, are enjoying warmer weather now,I'm sure your Mum will be enjoying it too!

Do you find carrying the 02 on your back,is an easier way of transporting it?

I am finding the concentrator at home a good help, but trying to find best way of being outside with the portable 02.

Keep walking on,

Your Aussie mate,Wen xxx

Hi Wen my good looking Aussie mate, glad you enjoyed my little stroll by the river, its a popular walk because its level and there's lots to see along the way.

I find carrying my oxygen on my back works for me but that extra stone in weight is noticeable for sure. I have liquid oxygen also, which is smaller but just as heavy so no real advantage apart from being able to fill up at home.

Its not a lot of fun getting used to oxygen but I'm sure glad its there for us, Where would we be without it eh' :)

Young Tony, his child bride and his mum :) :) :) xxxx

As always, wonderfully impressive! You put me to shame - breathing is so much easier for me than you, and yet.you do so much more than me!

Child bride??? What am I missing? Hehe

Hi Fern, as you can see I walked and wasn't tempted to bike it, the bum is recovering but there's a way to go before it sits on a saddle again.

Your right about my breathing, when ever I listen to my videos I want to dial 999 as it sounds pretty awful. I guess its been like that since leaving ICU almost 5 years ago now and I've kind of got used to it. The thing is right up until falling ill I was a pretty fit person so I'm still trying to do the same things just at a very different pace, that's what pushes me to keep doing all this crazy stuff when really I should be sat in a comfy chair at home or sitting on the lawn soaking up the ray's.

Oh yeh' I posted a photo some time back with my wife Sharon on it and Wendell's thought she was my daughter Ha Ha. Needless to say Sharon likes wens a lot :) :) . I put it down to a very kind camera lens. writing this while looking carefully over shoulder just in case :) .

Hey, so long as you ARE still breathing, I shouldn't worry about the sound of it too much! Please do ask your wife for the key to looking young - God knows I could do with it! :-)

I guess you and I both 'fell' in 2011 then. However, unlike you, I was a sloth before becoming ill! I'd rather like to continue that way really but, on the other hand, I'd prefer to keep what I have in as good a working order as I can - use it or lose it as they say! I shouldn't tempt fate really but, for reasons unknown, I've been soooo much better this year and had it not been for a little slip up last Monday I could have said this was my first winter in 5 years where I escaped hospital! Still, it was only a 1-night stay so I don't think that counts! Keep on with your impressive exercise routine, Tony!

Your right noisy breathing is good, in fact any kind of breathing is good.

Yes Fern I can give you my wife's secret to looking young, as I said before, a kind camera lens. Ha Ha.

I actually fell ill on my 51st Birthday in July 2010 and finally got out of hospital in November a completely different person physically. That was a birthday holiday I really didn't see coming and could have done without.

I'm going over the Malverns to see my dad today and even though the weather could be better I'm gonna get out for a walk up the lanes and blow out a few cobwebs.

I'll see if I can match those photo's you posted recently, they were great but I guess I'll have to try not to offend our troll, who ever it is they seem a little sensitive to these things. :) .

Keep doing what your doing Fern cus if its keeping you out of hospital that's got to be good eh'.

As always Tony, you are an inspiration, what a lovely video walk and your Mum looks amazing. Smashing photos too. I would be in my element with all those swans. I'd be there for the day with my camera just watching them. I hope that abscess continues to heal and I wish you well Tony. Lyn xxx

Hi Jolyn, that area of the river has been made into a swan sanctuary and its easy to see why. Parents bring their kids along to feed them so they'll never starve and fishing is banned because of the lead weights, line and hooks that get left around.

You would love it there Jolyn and with your talent using a camera the results would be pretty spectacular I'm sure.

The abscess is still on daily packing by the nurse but she says its healing well. :) Whew!!

Hi Tony

Sounds like you are doing well and it's great the abscess is healing. Talk about a pain in the butt!

Some wonderful pics. Loved the birdsong too.

Hi Sara, as you can see the abscess isn't giving me to much trouble unless I'm sitting down, oucha!! Its healing well the nurse tells me so should be back on the list soon hopefully.

Glad you enjoyed my short vid, the pics and the silence which allows you to hear those lovelly little bird songs.

Cheered me up too HP, first the weather and then the abscess have held me back for to long, hence my fitness has suffered but hopefully now I can get cracking and concentrate on staying as fit as possible.

Dad is busy in his garden and polly tunnel and mums busy in her garden to. All I can manage is to mow my lawns at a very very slow speed, snails have time to run for cover when I'm heading their way :) .

Now I'm out and about there's sure to be more pics and vids heading HUs way so keep um peeled HP.

Hope everything is good your end and you have your beetroot in.

Well, look at you all out and about in the sunshine. Lovely photos of your mum and you too of course. I had a bit of a shock when the scooter man went past as it looked a bit like Pete with his hat on but then I remembered we live nowhere near you! Doh!

It is so good to see you getting out again Tony and hope you continue to do as well as you possibly can. Take care xxxxx

Beautiful pictures of you and your Mother, this weather is perfect for getting out and enjoying the countryside. Thank you for sharing, you are an inspiration Tony x

Good morning Dall05, Tony, great to read about the walk with your Mum, super pictures as well,it must be an effort, but worthwhile as you feel the benefit from the exercise.Regards, Bulpit

Glad you enjoyed my post bulpit and the pics, they come out so much better when the sun shines.

I like this particular walk because its level and with the river there's always something to watch, whether its boats or wildlife.

Exercise is key to keeping my breathing at its best so even though it hurts a little and feels a bit uncomfortable its well worth the effort in the long run.

Thanks Bulpit

You are truly amazing - and you passed by the seat!

dall05 profile image
dall05 in reply to emmo

There are plenty of seats around the river walk and I was guilty of using one just before the video sprint, but then the walk is about 2 miles so not to bad eh'.

Almost got run over by Nigel Mansell on his turbo charged scooter though. Ha Ha.
