this is Sally Scarecrow, for all you knitters out there. she is quite old now so a bit scruffy, and my knitting is not great, but I had a lot of fun making her, and a granny and grandad (with medals) and Sam. would not have the patience now for all those fiddley bits! Love Iris x

Knitting for prems is something I have thought about. I had a baby in 1958/9 and she was six wks premature. Sadly she died age 2 days. Just wondered if they needed anything or were perhaps snowed under? Love Iris x

Lyd, hello Iris, what a sad thing to happen to you, I would imagine it's something you would never recover from,, our first child was also borne in 1958. 57 years ago,sometimes seems like yesterday,our third grandchild was born 10 weeks early,luckily with today's expertise she survived, and is now 16 years old, a very worrying time. I doubt whether the Prem wards are over stocked with small things, If you have a local hospital,give them a ring. My very best wishes to you, Bulpit

You are right, its so hard to lose a baby, especially a first and when you are young you are so vulnerable, you think how could this happen to you? do you watch Call the Midwife? Hard to believe we lived through those difficult times. when my baby was born, I was told the consultant will be in on Thursday.

Morning Iris, Yes I did watch Call the Midwife and loved it. It's amazing how things have changed since the 50's, It doesn't seem that long ago. Do hope your Easter is enjoyable, The weather this morning is dull and wet,fingers crossed it will improve. Best wishes, Bulpit

Sally Scarecrow has brought back memories of my knitting days. I used to knit toys for a local charity shop. I can only manage 3 rows a night now, so knitting anything is a very long job!

Hi Helen,

memories get triggered more and more the older we get, dont they. sorry to hear knitting is difficult for you now. I had not been knitting for some time and wondered if my figers were up to it but luckily so far they are working OK. I used to do embroidery and tapestry but given that up. Love Iris x

Oh Iris, I used to have one of those. Can't remember where it came from or where it went but was quite similar. People used to have fun knitting them. I have no talent for knitting but my mum was very good indeed.

Hi Sassy,

Sally is from a Jean Greenhowe pattern, very popular. I gave the Granny I made to my hygieneist, she kept a few toys handy for nervous children.

Lyd 12 I think your knitted is great, take it from a current knitter. After doing my bits on the computer in the morning I go and knit while watching TV. until tea time after back to tv and knitting , I make stuff and just hang it up in my bedroom people don't seem to want home make stuff these days. I made stuff for my 1st great granddaughter she never ever wore it, think my granddaughter gave it away, I keep saying i'll do a craft show and sell it there but never do,

I get told off by my husband as I don't do exercises I just cant be asked to be truthful

so If you enjoy doing something carry on doing it

I do agree with what you say about knitting clothes these days. I too have sent garments for grandchildren, but never saw them worn so gave up.

Must admit cardigans I have made for myself have not been my favourites!

My boys all wore school jumpers knitted by gran, she must have got so tired of knitting in maroon! As a child, with Mum, we unpicked worn out jumpers and re.-knitted the wool up again, nothing wasted.

there is a charity that wants knitted squares for Syrian families.

I can be asked to knit squares I would get bored with that, I have knitted things and sent them to family in New Zealand but the postage is so expensive so I do them as a gift for new members of the family out there as they cant get enough of home made stuff, thank you for your reply
