HI, are you sure it's heartburn, what does your Dr say, I thought that and it was reflux and was given Omeprazole, which has helped.
Good day Breathless
Thanks for your reply. I actually used to take omeprazole. I read that it wasn't good to take it for long periods of time. I guess I somewhat got it under control.
Just by chewing gum after eating.
Now I have stuff coming up in my throat and it hurts under my breastbone. I do have a couple gallbladder stones. Dr. Said nothing to worry about. What do you think
Rubyxx π π
I had my gallbladder removed, keyhole, still on omeprazole (40mg) . No problems at all.
Again I would say your Dr knows best and this is only my opinion and experience. I was frightened at the time but it really was ok. I did stop omeprazole for a while but my Dr kept it on my repeat (think he was right) Been today to see him for me diabetes review, all bloods good apart from HBA1C so he has increased my meds for that.
Best Wishes and take care,
Breathless. (as always)
Gaviscon double action works well.
I take Lansoprazole Ruby xxx
tha'st what I have to take everyday since I had my gall bladder taken away in 2009 but still get it late in the day at times if I have eaten bread
Hi Joyce
I have gallstones. Doc said , not enough to worry about. Think that could be my pain under my breastbone? What were your symptoms?
Rubyxx π
hi mine wasn't just gall stones. My gall bladder had turned gangrene and I had septersemier thats why I can have any been put out anymore as they cany wake me. If the do yours it would be keyhole surgery I cant help you with you symptoms as mine was different sorry but hope yours is sorted soon good luck
Good morning little miss Ruby, Oh dear heartburn,so unpleasant. Try soda water, usually a small can will do the trick, better than pills. Your weather is dreadful at the moment, hope you are managing to cope,TKe care, Best wishes Bulpit
Hey Bulpit
Your right, weather is dreadful. We just never get a break here. Your nephew is in Boston, right? I think
they had like 90 inches of snow there. Can you imagine? Never tried soda water. Do you get heartburn
alot?
Miss Ruby πΌπΌ
Morning Little Miss Ruby, Luckily, only suffer with indegestion sometimes, never heartburn, well only when I was pregnant many years ago. My nephew has a house in New Jersey and an apartment in New York where he works, He stays in the apartment all week to save the daily commute, How do your cats cope with all the snow,do you manage to get them to go out. Best wishes Bulpit
Cats do ok with the snow. Feel bad for the Feral cats. Its just such a unusually cold winter. Its breaking records cold! So your nephew and I are neighbors. New York is something. You ever been there?
Miss Rubyπ
Morning Miss Ruby, Unfortunately never visited NY, My eldest son visits regularly, He is a purser with BA, but his visits are always short, mostly just a night stop. My nephew had to return to his house in NJ to keep, the snow clear infront of his house. We don't have that law in the UK,not that we have much snow, Take care and best wishes,Bulpit
Morning Bulpit
It is 4:30 a.m here right now. Temp. Is 18 degrees- fahrenheit. Thats like -7.77 celsius to you. Pretty cold here. I just got home from work. My daughter and I clean offices at night.
Crazy hrs. I got. At least the traffic isn't bad!

Try having a look at your diet or medications to see what causes the heartburn, and leave them out or change them, and try Ginger Tea.
hot water. Keep a flask beside your bed.
Hi Rubyred, When did your heartburn start - I remember you posted about turmeric and I gave my husband a tablet form after three days he was suffering horrendous heartburn! Indian tonic water sometimes helps him or Andrews Liver Salts! Check your meds. and see if any of them have heartburn as a side effect. Take good care, TAD xxx PS I would advise you go to the Doctor if it is a problem to you just to have checked out.
Hi Rubyred, an oldie, but goodie - a teaspoonful of bicarbonate of soda in a little water will move mountains. I've always taken it throughout my life and it beats all your "over the counter" rubbish hands down. It tastes disgusting, but oh boy, does it work?!
Having said all that, if you get heartburn excessively and continually, go see your GP, it could be something else? Good luck. XX
Peptic liquid worked for me. But sometimes it can be down to a certain food or drink?
I take lanzaprosole but still use hot water with a drop of lemon in if it gets bad, but do get to the doc if you are getting it frequently.
polly xx
Gaviscon duel and do not eat 3 hours before bed time - plus raised bed head
I am on Ranitidine but still need a top up of peppermint tea now and then
Hi Ant good to hear from you.
That would be Zantac.I was actually going to buy that. Do you recommend it? How often do you take it?
How are you doing today?
Rubyxx π π
Hi Ruby, Zantac is one name and is costly. Ranitidine can be bought at Savers. A pack of twelve is currently 79p.
I was recently prescribed by my GP and he suggested 150mg twice daily. After using this dose for four days I was able to reduce to just once a day.
It works for me, where as Omeprazole and Lansaprazole upset my digestive system.
Give it a go?
Good Luck,
Cyril.
Hi Ruby I take 150 mg twice a day, that dose is not available over the counter the max allowed to be sold by a pharmacist is only 75mg, in all honesty I would have a word with the doc as there can be countless reasons why each one of us produce or overproduce acid and that is what needs looking into at first. I take my first dose of the day at 7am as I find taking it on an empty stomach works the best hence the last dose is 1 hour before tea.
As for me well I have been worse but then I have been better I am going through my fourth flare up since leaving hospital.
1/2 to 1 teaspoon of Bicarbonate of Soda ( baking soda ) is an old reliable cure. Also helps to keep your Ph levels right.
The brand name of mine is Tiva UK Ltd. I take one a day Ruby
Ginger tea is very settling Ruby but make sure you get things checked out with your GP just to be sure. xxxxx
I avoid all acid food to prevent it. If it does occur I will drink warm water with lemon juice (alkaline). A herbalist once recommend cabbage water too.
hi I am on Omeprazole too, but sometimes I eat something I shouldn't and heartburn catches me out while i'm trying to get to sleep.
I find that simply turning on to my right hand side often works.( I once read that it's something to do with the anatomy of the stomach)
If that doesn't work Gaviscon is good, but do talk to your Dr.
Hi ruby, What the others have said is right. I found on Amazon some jarro-zymes which is pancreatic enzymes in pills; they digest difficult food like carbohydrates, meat ( see the blurb on Amazon) This contributes to a better digestion and may diminish the heart burn altogether. With this product, I have been able to reduce Lanzoprazole to one a day instead of 2.
Lanzoprazole and Omeprazole (much the same drug, one is English made, the other French made) can be taken for a very long period of time, years. No side effects that I know of. Hope it helps.
Sounds like a good plan to me. I'm going to try it out. Wonder if others take the enzymes on the site. Is that the same as probiotics?
Thanks Rubyxx π
