Hi England, I do sympathise as it's dreadful when you can't sleep and your thoughts are whizzing round

I found Paul McKenna's book on sleep in a charity shop and that was useful, but I lent it to a friend and not seen it since!

I have a few CDs of relaxing music and nature sounds which I listen to which help me relax.

You Tube is my nightime help, there are videos of waves, waterfalls, even rainstorms and thunder.

But the best thing I find is meditation and relaxation, again you can find ideas on You Tube or on CDs

Are there certain foods that keep you awake? I can't drink coffee after lunchtime or even chocolate in the evening or I can't sleep

Some medications such as steroids keep me awake too

One good way of relaxing I find, is just being aware of the breath gently coming and going and relaxing into it. I found this very difficult at first because of the lung problems I have, listening and being aware of the breath made me anxious at first, but now I am ok and try to relax my diaphragm and "belly breath"

Hope you manage to sleep tonight, thinking of you.

You can try counting each gentle relaxed diaphragm breath.....one number for each breath up to ten, then back to one. Bit like counting sheep!

Hi I was always told if you can't sleep after 20 minutes or so get up and do something gentle to try and make you relax. No telly or reading though. Hope this helps. x

I was like flibberti, I had to get some help off the docter with the anxiety and it sorted out the sleepless nights too. Although, it wasn't until I couldn't eat anything through it and had lost loads of weight, that I finally went to the docter. So, don't put up with it too long like I did, get help to nip it in the bud.
