Rambling Away...

There...that's it...Christmas is over. I've opened my own personal packet of cashew nuts...absolutely adore salted cashews and I know they're fatty and the salt is really bad and to be perfectly honest I couldn't give a fig...can't eat figs 'cos the seeds worm their way under me teeths. My Granny used to take her teeth out you know...she didn't care one bit. She take them out and poke the offending seed with her finger and then pop them back in...

Himself loves chocolates and will happily wade his way through an entire box of Dairy Milk...they just make me feel queasy...so he eats chocolate and I eat nuts.

And we've decided...the television is going. We watch about half an hour a week and now the government have snatched our free television licence away and we're going to have to pay from the beginning of January...€160! For a load of feckin shite...( that's not swearing...it's Irish ) so it's going...into the barn for now until we find it a new home.

The television people seem to think the viewers have the attention span of a gnat...we did watch a sad and sorry tale about a murderer and after every single advertisement break the voice-over ran all the way through what had already been shown...that hour could have been condensed into twenty minutes if they'd trusted we could remember what had happened previously.

It's been really cold...teeth chattering cold...there I go again about teeth...poor Millie had constipation in the night and she was desperate to go outside...at two in the morning. Himself didn't wake up, so I let her out and it's a bit like Fort Knox here...bolts and locks with keys and the

back door determined to break your fingers with a wonky latch...

I stood there shivering on the doorstep while the poor little dog tried to poo...and that reminded me of my nursing days when we used to use green soft soap as an enema...maybe I was talking out loud 'cos Millie produced her poo and slept peacefully for the rest of the night...

Still bitterly cold today, with the odd flurry of snow...

Informative little tale. :) You should consider writing a descriptive little story and try getting it published, that could take the place of the TV lol :) x Hope you have had a lovely Xmas Day and wish you a very Happy New Year. PS My elderly relatives will be in the same boat as you Re: the TV. Best Wish Ruth. x

We've never watched much so it won't be hard for us to do!

You fibber Vasti! Fecking S...e is so swearing and you know it! But I'll let you off. Poetic license and all that.

I can just see you standing in the doorway of your cottage shivering and muttering and scaring the poor wee dog into performing.

As for soapy enemas. So that's what they used when I was in the throes of childbirth! If thoughts could kill there would be a few dead nurses around my bed when I had my kids. How times have changed! And my God, they needed to.

But I digress. Great script Vasti. I wait for them. Thanks. Give Millie a hug for me.

I'd completely forgotten about childbirth and enemas...and being shaved...lol...those were the days!

Your post tempted me Vashti, as I like cashews too but prefer none salted. I love chocolates too but only a couple at a time. Yes the fixed TV licence rates change this year as do my frozen council tax rates, so going to be a dearer year need to make cuts ourselves again. You can stream TV on your computer if you have broadband Vashti or as I was told you can view sky only but think that's dearer than a TV licence. Apart from all these downs did you have a nice Christmas? We did have a White Christmas eventually about five o'clock last night as my grandson was driving us home. But the snow has gone this morning , it is so cold the boiler is struggling to reach temperature too this morning, so coats and blankets at the ready. Have a happy new year and hope there's better news on the horizon come January 1st. Take care and keep warm if you can ................

I love nuts too, especially salted! Because of my diverticulitis,I'm not supposed to eat them, but every so often I cheat!

I could just imagen you, shivering at the door! So glad the dog performed,& didint need an enama!

As for TVs licences, that finished here,in the 1970s,if I remember correctly, would hate to see that come back!!

Happy New Year to you,xxx

What I'd like to know is, why are we forced to have a tv with BBC channels on it if we don't watch BBC? I strongly object to the tv license. It's just another rip-off to fill the coffers of the super rich company who in return give us loads of repeats - again, and again, again. O.K , so the commercials are annoying sometimes, but with todays TV's you don't have to listen to them, just hit the mute button when they come on.

So, you say. the BBC owns the airways? How can you own something that's there by nature?

I'm sure I'll get a long and technical explanation on here as to why and how this works, but I'll never change my mind. it is, and always has been a just another way to wring money out of people, some of whom rely on their TV's etc., as their only form of entertainment. Let's hope that the proposed bill to put an end to this robbery, gets pushed through in 2015.

Perhaps the Government would like to tax the air we breath - after all there's not much else left they can charge us for doing - is there?

....and if it is in the Republic, not UK, it has nothing to do with the BBC :)

Notice the price was in Euros not pounds, I expect it is something in the Republic, not UK

Yes IPfS, that's why I'm wondering. I live in Ireland and am wondering if this is something new ?

Happy New Year vashti and looking forward to more tales to come from you. We had a nice Christmas but eldest son absent because of winter vomiting bug, daughter-in-law round but she now also has bug, granddaughter only 3 months so pray she doesn't get it though she probably will. Pete in terrible pain with his ongoing back problem and mother-in-law with her dementia but all in all not a bad time. Seeing what next 24 hours bring - no bugs I hope!

Flipping cold here too. You stay well and warm. xxxx

Gosh Vashti, It is so very cold. I woke up at 6. the central heating was already blasting away. But I thought it didn't heat at all. Love cashew nuts. I found the unsalted variety. I put that in my cerals with raisins too.

Got a few layers and a hat. My wife asked me if she could come, I told her it was terrible outside, don't. anyway, she is who shie is and turned up!

I have this rambling mucus in my throat not tasting nice! I've only played a few minutes on the headjoint of my flute, strident noise! I hope my neighbour upstairs is not upset!

My door is even better, if you haven't got the knack it won't close. this is what happened to my wife. Went to midnight service and came back waking me up because she couldn't close the door. (see previous post)

Come on we wait for the new year to come in now. Hope the cold will go too. The met office says it will be really cold. I do believe them.

Tons of duvet on my bed. Hope you keep warm or hot!
