Anyone had IV Methylprednisolone, I'm to go in for 3days in the next couple of weeks for this and would love a heads up on side effects etc ;)

Hope you all well,

Hello mrs shimmy

I have had methylpred several times due to lupus. it has affected me in many ways. I have out on weight, I mean lots & lots of it. Increased my appetite, changed my taste buds, difficult sleeping ( only sleep for 2 to 3 hrs per night), poor eye sight& moon face ( where my face is swollen due to Steriods).

All the best!

Yikes that doesn't sound like much fun! I'm already in a big dose of oral steroids so moony face already, I'll have to be very careful with the weight gain, I've lost 2 stone in the past 12months and really don't want to pile it all back on :(

Does it go back to normal after a while?

It does take a while for moon face to go away, once your Steriods have been reduced. Am sure it can take up to 6 months or so, depends on an individual & disesase etc

Hi, I had Methylprednisolone infusions in September. 1,000 mg each time. The first one was on a Monday I felt a bit woozy afterwards. The second one, Tuesday wasn't quite so bad. On the Wednesday I didn't have a dose and I felt so angry and aggressive, I could have ripped everyone's head off!! I did gradually calm down as the day wore on. I went for my final one on Thursday, and felt completely wiped out, I actually fell asleep after they connected me up and the infusion began. About half way through, I woke up and felt a bit better. Each infusion lasts between an hour to an hour and a half because before the first one they have to check your blood pressure etc. and each one starts with a saline flush, and ends with a saline flush. After my first one, because I had to go back the next day, they left the cannula in overnight, with a protective bandage round it. It was removed after day 2 and a fresh one put in for the third one. . I'd been on 40mg tablets for 28 days before, and this was reduced to 30mg afterwards for a further 28 days. I'm now taking 15mg as I am on a reducing dose until I've been weaned off. I didn't have any problems sleeping, in spite of the high doses, but boy - did I feel hungry all the time!!! OH says I look like Punxsutawney Phil, the Groundhog from the film Groundhog Day - charming!!

I hope this information helps, sending you hugs and best wishes for your treatment.

Thank you, that's really helpful and sounds similar to the plan they have for me which is over 3 days. I'm on 40mg oral pred, reducing, very slowly until I go in.

I'm going in before Christmas so there'll be lots of treats around to try and resist ;)

I have the fortunate disposition to steroid euphoria and when in hospital had to have a set of 3 methyl press pumped one after the other. The hallucinations were fantastic. Re hunger I found it didn't start until a few days later. Then oh boy I would have eaten my arm!

Keep smiling

Dozy :) xxx
