Hi Brian yes eating is important, try eating little but often maybe small bits are more manageable than 1 large meal. X Sonia x

Peeg, and also a dietician who would advise you what to eat to make it go down more easily.

Hello Brian I was the same as you about 18 months ago. I had no appetite and lost a lot of weight. My Consultant said six small meals a day. I manage five. I add Soya protein powder to smoothies, mashed potato anything I can and eat a healthy diet. I find if I'm active I actually do get hungry and can eat small meals slowly. I am back to my normal weight now. I may have a link saved regarding foods to eat. Will look and post here if I can find it. xx

I know how exactly how you feel, I was very ill in March and lost loads of weight going down from a size 16 to a size 8 only just under 7 stone now and try really hard to eat but somedays just can't. I have just bought a slow cooker so it makes a meal easy to do, I think tiredness is a big factor when having to cook.

You really should go to the doctor who in turn will probably send you to a dietician who can give you Fortisip drinks which have lot of the vitamins and minerals you need.

Take care

You are right Polly tiredness was and sometimes is my problem. Either to tired to cook or when I have cooked too tired to eat. Hope the slow cooker proves successful. Think I might get mine off the shelf wash and cook, especially now weather has turned cold. Lovely stew and dumplings.

It will be fine Polly. Let me know the results. I'm not an eager cook when I make the effort I'm good but not my first choice of enjoyment. Slow cooker a doddle. family think I have really made an effort instead of putting it in and just leaving it.xx

Feel quite relieved I am not on my own. Sorry I know this does not answer your question but the answers to your question helped me. I should really ask more as people on this site have most of the answers.

Kindest GJ

Ps would still like to know what causes this disinterest in food.

I also have lost weight from lack of appetite and interest in food. It seems to be caused by one of the drugs I am on which is Pirfenidone. It causes sense of smell and taste to alter. Bread when toasting smells like tuna fish, when I open a packet of ham it smells the same. Ok if you like tuna, but I don't. I have always tried over the years to eat healthy, but now, I really just want biscuits, cake, fruit malt loaf. I really enjoyed a rice pudding recently.

Perhaps some of your meds are also causing this.

Poor you. I am happy to say I still have taste and smell. You have just mentioned rice pudding. I am going to get some while I feel I want to. I am on the sAme meds I have been on for years.

Kindest regards

GJ
