Hello and welcome. I was diagnosed severe 18 months ago. My quality of life is still good but at a slower pace. Still work and do most things. You are young and maybe able to continue better than me. I'm 72 this month. Keep active, exercise, eat well and keep a positive mind. I do lapse sometimes on all of them but start again. Many on here will help you just post any questions you may have. Others are far more knowledgeable than me. I have gained immense comfort and knowledge from reading postings. Take care.
Hello and welcome, although I am sure you would rather not be here, but it is the friendliest site around. Lots of people who have been through it will be able to help with good advice. Take care D
Hello there,
Well done you for stopping smoking ! It is really the best thing you can do for yourself. And yes, yes, yes, go for Rehab, I found it very helpful....and continue with the exercises once the course is finished and the knowledge you will gain there will be invaluable. I was diagnosed almost 11 years ago and probably knew myself about 10 years before then that I had COPD but did not do anything about it.
Do keep as well as you can, eat fresh healthy food and always take your medication.
Singing can be a good help as well.
The BLF helpline is great and I have used it a few times. The quality of your life may be up and down but it is not over yet! Look forward to hearing how you go and the folk on here are pretty special with their help and support.
Wishing you a wonderful day
Good Morning - I have good news my husband has severe COPD - actually if we are honest - very severe but I don't want to make It sound any worse!! He is still working full time, we still have a great quality of life and he is still here!
The pulmonary rehab is fantastic and I know you will be wondering how it can be! I am sure you know it is a course of 6/8 weeks twice a week of exercise and information. You will see so many benefits including been able to walk further etc.
My advise would be to ring the BLF helpline - they have some fantastic leaflets that will help you and that will give you some information before you start the pulmonary rehab. My advise based on what we have experienced is to be pro-active - enjoy the pulmonary rehab and learn to listen to your body. You will get older - we all do and we do slow down but it can be at your pace.
The very best of luck - let us know how the course goes. If you have any other questions just ask us - there are lots of lovely people with buckets of knowledge! TAD xx
Welcome
Well done for giving up smoking, the PR will do you a lot of good. It's daunting at first and I wont lie to you at times I get depressed, but everyone on here has such vast knowledge of all the different lung conditions somehow together they help to buck you up. Don't Google if you have a question ask BLF helpline or someone on here. The most important thing to remember this illness is different for everyone.

Hi "numbers" and welcome to our site. You will notice that we are humans here and welcoming! Brilliant that you've stopped smoking. Even more brilliant that you will go to Pulmonary Rehab. Your quality of life depends on how much you will devote yourself at keeping fit
Summer time might be the best time to make a decision to do exercises every day. here is a set that can be done any time in the day:

You have done very well to take charge of yourself so far. Ask what you want to know, a better knowledge of your illness will empower you.
I have suffered with bronchiectasis since 1994. yes, I have been very ill, but I haven't been defeated yet, . Of course, I rely on prescription that my consultant gives me, but I go to the gym regularly, which has made me feel well. I also feel happy, I think it's certainly due to my regular exercises.
Keep cool, drink a lot and come and tell us more about yourself. Cheers.
Don't worry

Don't worry about it that first thing to do rehab is fantastic makes feel a lot better in yourself and that bit fitter in body it is bad I'm not going to say it isn't I've had bad empyrean since I was 46 - 47 some days are good some aren't I think it's about worrying about it yes you have this illness never stop doing what you like to do what makes you happy do the best you can do . Good luck
Welcome to the site, I was diagnosed 10 years ago at the age of 42 I'm now stage 4 keep up your yearly flu jab, keep away from people with the flu try and keep fit and take your meds.
You can always find help on this site don't think you asking stupid questions we have all been there and have the t-shirt.
I was diagnosed with emphysema when I was 37 in 1997. Anyone diagnosed at a younger age should ask for an alpha 1 Antitrypsin deficiency test. It's a simple blood test that your GP can do for you. It's important to know if you have an underlying condition. This as it affects the treatment that you might receive. I wish you well but have the test and if you're deficient and you want to talk it through, message me.
Good luck
