Had to let the liquid oxygen go.

Well Finally I had to admit that I couldn’t manage filling up my portable unit with liquid oxygen any more so I had to let it go and have it replaced with cylinders which I cannot carry around because they are just too heavy.

It would appear that the only way that I will be able to have any outside life would be to buy a portable concentrator.

I am with Airliquide who only lend these out for holidays, so that means relying on our own ‘Respiratory Equipment for sale’ area to find something suitable.

I wonder if it would be possible to get the page updated though so that potential buyers would know which items are still available. Also the obvious questions, how easy is it to get maintenance and spare parts here in the UK?.

I can’t bare to think of being completely confined to the house so the future looks bleak, I’m sure that I am not the only one in this position so any help will be gratefully appreciated.

Hi

Air Liquide do two portable concentrators.

Philips I- go

Imogen one G2

Both come with trolleys.

There is no problem for repairs or spares, a service cost about £110 depending on device.

As I am only on 2lpm and living on the first floor, climbing stairs with a cylinder and shopping was not on.

I purchased my own Airsep Focus.

Evening

I didn't like the liquid oxygen either, so I have the cylinders but I've got a trolley with mine I pull along behind me. My brother in law says it's like a golf trolley. xxx

Hi kimmy,

when I had oxygen, I had a trolley too, three wheels. I was weak in those day and it wasn't easy to lift the trolley up. and I had a "preserver" on the oxygen which meant I only used the oxygen when I breathed in. the mechanism stopped the oxygen flowing when I breathed out. This way a one hour bottle lasted a lot longer.

I went to the gym for an hour three times a week with this system. After 2 months, I could stop the oxygen altogether.

I recommend the gym, even with a bottle of oxygen!

Are you sure Air Liquide do not provide Portable Oxygen Concentrators?

Speak with your Respiratory Nurse as she is the person who will prescribe one for you if deemed to be what us best for you.

My supplier is BOC and they certainly supply Portable Concentrators. I used one until I required more Oxygen than the concentrator could supply so am now on liquid oxygen.

I must admit to wondering what would happen come the time I can no longer fill my portable unit.

Good luck. I hope you can sort something out. You shouldn't have to pay for your own.

Hi a lady at PR has a push along trolley rather than a pull along and she has her cylinder attached to that from her supplier, talk to your doctor or respiratory nurse they will help you :)

I have a trolley for my cylinders I just pull it along behind me and pop into the back of the car behind the seat. I tried a portable concentrator and found it was not much lighter I personally prefer the cylinders.

I'm on 02 24/7, have a portable small tank (4 hours worth) in order to go outside. My supplier said liquid 02 is hard for most people to deal with. It works better but I'll stick to what I have. I can put it in the basket on my walker.

I can't believe you have to pay for anything to do with your oxygen supply when we are giving methadone to drug addicts and if you think the list is endless diabetics get there meds free, I pay a yearly subscription for my meds but I still have to pay for inhalers none of my meds are free.

I'm stage 4 COPD I dread to think how much I will have to pay for my oxygen when my time comes.

Do ask your nurse because portable concentrators can be supplied but they are heavier than a cylinder. A cylinder can easily be transported in a shopping trolley which is also less obvious than a machine

Ask your oxygen nurse about other options such as home fill system in which a compressor is attached to your oxygen concentrator mine sits on the top enabling me to fill small lightweight cylinders with compressed oxygen. Airliquide will have to supply whatever your prescriber orders If they prescribe a portable concentrator or Home Fill system Airliguide will be obliged to supply.
