that's dangerously low; I once had 76 while out (in a city in southern China) and felt very weak and shaky. You may need a portable ox machine as back up.

Sorry to hear but these lung problems can be real scary. I have been frightened many times. Please have a word with your Doctor or Nurse that sounds far to low. Do it today oxytic, please don't be worried all weekend.

I would see your GP and see about a concentrator for moving about.

I hope you get it sorted it can not be pleasant.

Thank you , all you good people .I was diagnosed with lung problem some 14 years ago at hospital went through all the tests x-rays and things specialist said I have Emphysema and that It benefit me to have a lung reduction .So a cat scan was taken and it showed scaring all over both lungs .So lung reduction was of no use to me .I had blood gas taken at hospital and when given oxygen the specialist said I done well on oxygen and I was prescribed oxygen at home when ever I needed it (which I must agree it lessoned the state that I got into by using it at high volume for a short time.) Such a welcome relief. Then nurse came round to see me and said I should not be oxygen and that they would not prescribe oxygen unless ox metre read below 91... my reading is good 91/-93 while sitting. But as soon as I move about oxygen levels fall so rapidly and it feels like all over my body is in pain! I have to stop whatever I am doing to get oxygen.(but the nurses who visited me was going to stop my oxygen )

The nurse may like to stop it, but talk to your GP about what happens every time you move. The nurse cannot walk over doctor's orders. Remember, though, that with oxygen, you can and ought to do some gentle exercises at home. I have experienced this myself. In 2010, I was on home oxygen and bottles with a saving device for outside (lasting an hour). I went to the gym with my bottle. they were in a panic and asked me to bring a certificate from the doctor to say it was alright. I got the certificate. 2 moths later, I weaned myself of the bottled oxygen at the gym. and shortly after I could breathe without the oxygen supply altogether.

I don't say you can do exactly what did. but there's a good chance of improvement if you do exercises at home.

Ask your doctor and talk to the pulmonary nurse about Pulmonary Rehabilitation: she may or may not agree (worth a try). Look after yourself.

I pleaded with my GP who stood by me and allowed the oxygen when ever I needed it .....I think if this didn't happen, today I wouldn't be here. scary thank you for your comforting replies bless you all

HiIt is a nuisance that there is difference of options depending where you live.

I was prescribed Ambultory oxygen for excercise and moving around. This was done by a pulmonary rehablitation nurse late confirmed by a six minute walk test with the oxygen team at local hospital , without oxygen I am 93/94 at rest . But soon as I start walking drops to 83 like you I have even had middle 70s. With oxygen I maintain 91/92 with the odd 89 still above the recommended 88.

Doctors no longer assess for oxygen, but I am sure he/ she should be able to refer you for assessment .

Stone thank you .You are right I do need an assessment. because it was never done. I was told I defiantly needed oxygen.Prescribed by the hospital consultant. But not on an hourly rate, just told when ever I needed it.I have seen my oxygen level fall so quick to as low as 72 and it stays low and slow to recover while I am still. If I ask for the rehabilitation nurse for a needed assessment it will be a case of'" old wounds" I felt shore that they were making there jobs pay by cutting costs .And I must admit it has made me paranoid .Without oxygen life dies .

Afternoon.

I agree with Stone. I had the Respiratory nurses here about my oxygen on Wednesday, I have 16hrs on 1/2lt but when I'm sitting down my level is 94/95 but when I'm active it drops. So your like me need it to move about.

this is such a difficult time for you but do not give up, if you cant fight have you a family member who can go with you to g.p and maybe asked to be referred to a specialist, maybe a specialist hospital like the royal brompton

hospital in London, there is 5 other similar units. May be ask. My husband was in hospital with pulmonary fibrosis, and on 24 hr oxygen at 6/8 litres, the nurses tried to turn it down, his sats were 65, thank God they listened to me as his base line is now 10/12 litres. Be calm but insistent asking for help.speak to BLF, All the best.

Hi oxytic. I don't know about your niece, but if you were my uncle supporting you at a doctors appointment would not be too much, I would be more upset if you needed me and didn't ask.

I always leave it too long to stand up to the docs/nurses but when I do they always support. Try it, you might be pleasantly surprised :-)

Best of luck. X

Hi Eric, l have to say l'm in agreement with creakykneed, your niece obviously loves you very much. Maybe she might be more upset you not asking. sometimes say sorry cant help today. but can do??? Bless you Eric, only on here once a day but happy to chat

creakykneed and rocket ....Thank you both .you are right about my niece ...she tells me off if she finds I didn't ask what the time arose .Its horrid even going to these places doctors hospitals ..I could manage while breathing was a little better ...But I must admit I'm slowly loosing against ..moving and getting about .I supposed to have had a blood test 6 months ago still haven't had that yet and that puts me off of going to the doctors ...What a shambles ,I know I bring it on myself....But I don't its my condition My doctor is but 100 yards away down hill .I have to drive because I get into such a state walking back up hill .... I rarely take the small ox tank only if I venture to the supermarket where the ox tank can sit in the trolley.....Anyway I guess I'll find a way around it all ....bless you for your comforting thoughts bless you ....Eric x
