I would try dark grape juice it has a very pleasant taste and it should break up the phlem for you but do not expect it to work over night \\\\

you can buy it from the supermarket or store near you I would think or woolworths supermarket I would give it a go if I was you mate its also

not very expensive I have got results from it myself but no two people are the same anyway good luck\\\\\ oh just one thing check the sugar \

I think the best idea would be to ask our doctor as there are things that he can prescribe for you such as carbocisteine which is very good . x

Hello Malk7, You have my sympatyhy. I have IPF. I coughed from getting up to going to bed but never during the night! I was prescribed carbocisteine and it has helped al lot. I still cough but not as often and it isn't as harsh.

Drink hot water honey and lemon helps me. Menthol crystals/ VIC in hot water have done too with a towel over the head.

huffing could be a way of getting a bit more phlegm up if you have some?

Instead of a towel over your head and head over a bowl of hot water with Vic (you can be scalded), I use an Airwaycup, which is a cup which has a breathing mask on top. There's less chance of being scalded. Still Vic, Eucalyptus and menthol can be irritant, so be careful.

I drink plenty of bottled water (Caledonian which doesn't "scratch" my throat. I keep a bottle by my bed, if my throat gets dry during the night.

ask for advice from a physiotherapist that the doc can refer you to.

Thanks Julie

hi malk, i read an old remedy, on this forum [i cant remember which post] i always was going to try this myself,i still will , this thread has in fact reminded me of this simple recipe,,, if i remember right, it was

,,,get a large spanish onion, cut it up the night previous, sprinkle it with plenty brown sugar, then in the morning drink the juices, it might sound unpleasant,,, but if it works:) i have carbocisteine easily prescribed by g.p........jimmy

Hi Jimmy Thanks, "if that dont work nothing will mate ", expect you become unpopuler also after taking it. Think I will try the Carbocisteine, thats if one can get a doctors apointment before dropping dead. Cheers Malk.
