I have COPD and just suffered a flare up. The steroids and antibiotics has helped but it is reluctant to go away!

Good Morning Colin, My husband can be the same. Sometimes it can take three or four courses of abs and steroids before it clears up properly. Have you been back to the doctor? It is advised to ask for a sputum sample to be taken to make sure you are taking the right antibiotics if it is an infection. Though sometimes it is just a flare up with my husband with no infection. If you are worried try ringing the helpline for advise - click on the red balloon - the nurses are very helpful.

I am into trying out alternative remedies too! And we have found that 1000mg of vitamin C has been helping. Only one flare up in the last six months (which is really good for us!). I say us because I feel like it is an "us" disease - we both suffer!!!

Thanks TAD. I am feeling better at last but go for a check up next week to make sure it has gone.I will give the Vitamin C a try. Thanks very much. Colinx

It definitely is an 'us' disease Tadaw, difficult to explain to someone what you as a partner of a COPD sufferer go through, unless the other person has experienced it to!

I have been getting infection after infection every other month, which is scary. I am blessed with a grrrreat Nurse Practitioner who is supportive informative and helpful. I do worry though, as each one seems to get worse and I keep wondering how long can my lungs keep taking this....plus, it makes you feel miserable......although I try not to feel sorry for myself. I take steroids for 10 days, and usually antibiotics for 2 weeks, but sometimes for 3. I recently attended a clinic and discovered I wasn't using my inhalers quite properly and to the maximum, and since learning that I seem to be keeping infection at bay, so perhaps you could look into that.
