Pulmonary Fibrosis

My mother-in-law has just been diagnosed with this condition (90 years old) - is there anything that will help ease a persistent cough?

Hello Margaret, I care for my husband who has severe COPD so cannot really help you. Perhaps the BLF helpline (click on the red balloon) could give you some good advise? TAD xx

thank you - I will suggest to Mother-in-Law to talk to them, she is reluctant at the moment, but I feel she needs expert support as nothing in our area, kind of you to answer.

I have pulmonary fibrosis and had a cough that was getting unbearable to live with. My consultant prescribed Carbocisteine and it has improved, I'm no longer coughing all day. I don't know if these will be suitable for your mum but I'm sure there must be something out there that will help her. Good luck.

you can ask doc for oramorph whin can suppress a very serious cough I am on it and it does a very good job of keeping it at bay

thanks Iancslass43 and teaky-19 = I will pass on your information, she seems to have had a better nights sleep last night.

Hi, I have Fibrosis, and a cough that seems to be triggered more after eating or drinking, so I saw my doc and got Domperidone tabs to take alongside my Lansaprasole, and Gaviscon to counteract the acid reflux that gets my throat tickling and makes me cough. I also suck Jakemans cough sweets. I have also got some Carbocisteine capsules to thin out mucus, so we are throwing everything we can at it, I still cough but not as much! I was given Oramorph, but it made me shaky, sick and then put me to sleep!. Hope you can make sense of all that. Love to your mumX

I do get the occasional cough which brings up coloured mucus and this happens without there being a chest infection ,which i also continue to get, especially throughout the Winter months...Is it normal to have coloured mucus..sometimes it is sticky and clear though...Is it just asthma or coud it be something else.I am on Seretide 250 Evohaler twice daily 2 puffs and Ventolin 100 micrograms...as needed.Any thoughts greatly appreciated ..Thank You .
