Hi shunelly, have you got any other symptoms such as a temperature or a cough....you really need to contact your gp. The BLF helpline is only available during the working week.

well it sounds like pleuriy to me.It's very very painful, just like being stabbed with pain & you cant move or breath deeply without excruciating pain.

We aren't doctors though and some one listening to your chest can tell if it's pleurisy because there's a sort of rasping sound where the pleural membranes rub against each other. I was always given painkillers and antibiotics.

Go see a medic somehow - on a Saturday! xx good luck

Knitter I have no other symptoms, the only thing is whenever I lay down it dosent matter what side it is the pain is just there when I take a deep breath. I did take some ibuprofen fornthe pain and it seemed to go away for about 2 hours and I got it again after I starded moving. So I applied icey hot and it sorda went away but the pain is still there not as strong but its not gone.

I once had a severe pain in the left of my chest, I couldn't breathe without pain and tried just to take tiny breaths. I also felt ill with it. The pain was was so bad I called an ambulance and apparently it was the big muscle over my heart which had gone into cramps. I didn't know that could happen. The doctor said it was probably due to a chest infection and sent me home with co codomal and lots of ab's. If you are worried it is best to go to A and E or call an ambulance. Anyone with dodgy lungs shouldn't take chances just in case. Can you ring up the nhs helpline no Is it 111? to get some advice? x

I agree with everyone else, don't ignore it you've probably got an infection. My infections manifest as stabbing pains, temperature and I'm normally sick.

I have had pleurisy a number of times and it has felt like a pebble stuck in my lungs and for reason is more painful than pneumonia for me. Keep warm plenty of fluids and off the doctors would be my advice.

Sounds like pleurisy to me too.l Ring the NHS Helpline on 111 to see what they say. The will probably get a doctor to phone you with advice or even an ambulance will be sent. Anyway do it, it's better than suffering. Take care. Lizzy

Could be serious, so see a doctor ASAP. However it could also be something innocuous like trapped wind. I know I get it quite regularly and Yes it is very painful. Cheers.
