Low sodium levels have many different causes. One of them is being "a high performance athlete"? Does that sound like you Phil? hee hee hee. Seriously though, lots of people have low sodium and don't know a thing about it until it shows up in a routine blood test. If you press into your feet with your fingers and it leaves a dent then that means you have fluid in your ankles or feet. There are lots of causes for this, including side effects of medication, of if you are using diuretics and other medical conditions. Your doctor will be keeping an eye on this because if it gets too much out of balance it can become serious. I think you said you were going to the doctors on Monday, so be sure to mention it. Take care. hugs xx ps. It could be something simple like you are not drinking enough water.

Thanks huggs, take care xxx. phil

Thanks squads, take care

Hiya Philbal,Swollen ankles usually go hand in hand with copd and if you have been on steroids for some time..I am on furosemide to get rid of fluid retention...Good luck Laura

hi Laura, thanks for reply, seeing gp Monday so I,ll get something off her. take care . Phil

Fluid retention with copd can indicate the heart having some difficulty. I'm about to have an echocardiogram, referred by gp due to swollen ankles. Unlike ECG this is a scan which shows how each of the four chambers in the heart is working, and if their valves are opening and closing ok. (A very unmedical description!)

O2trees, thanks for that, I,ll ask gp Monday. lol. phil

I am sorry to say that it also can indicate a heart condition!

But I have a heart condition as well and do not get swollen ankles but do leave dents. I Have RLD and my hands and knees swell?

thanks off cut, I,ll tell gp Monday. take care.

The last time I was in hospital for a week because of an exacerbation after two days my ankles were really massive, never had it before I kept asking but nobody seemed bothered. It was like trying to walk on jelly.Still don,t know why so assume it,s just another symptom of Copd.Take it easy Phil.D.

Hi I have edema now and again and the courses I've been told are not moving very much in the day, drinking to much alcohol ,wine in my case, and also my heart not pushing everything around as it should hope this helps and I have become a fan of Velcro shoes. :)

When seated, put your feet up on a raised stool or chair. This helps with circulation, irrespective of the causes.

Thanks for that. take care.
