Good idea, the hubby I mean if you have one. Have to admit I have tried many cleaners over time even when working in a kitchen but have yet to find one that does not effect the breathing. I have another answer try to cook things that don't need the oven so it does not get dirty so quick (smiles)

I found the use of oven bags a great idea,no splattering! xx

Hi Deepbreaths nice to meet you, ovens are my worse night mare I find its best to get the perfectionist people in to do the job, while they are doing it you can go out come home when its all done you find them in most local news papers hope this helps Bliss x

You could use a steam cleaner.

I have a steam cleaner. Will try it and maybe the bags iif can get hold of them. I live in the Pyrenees in France. Will BBQ as much as poss. Have electric BBQ as not allowed fires.

I use something from Wilkinsons (general household store. It's a tub of thickish paste and called Astonish. Put it on with a damp cloth and it doesn't take too much effort to shift the grime. No smell either :)

I don't have the energy and can't breathe bending down so I get mine cleaned twice a year by the professionals, it is as good as new when he has finished and no smell because he takes a lot of parts out to his van for cleaning.

All oven cleaners are toxic with bad smells, I always get someone in to do it for £40 its worth it they also do a far better job than I ever could do, takes them about 2 hours and its sparkling after no smells.

I bought one from Aldi for husband to use, but helped because I was amazed that it had no smell. Shelves went in a bag with some of the cleaner overnight and the rest was wiped round the oven and left for four hours then washed off. No smell even when I turned the oven on the next time! £3.99, cheaper than a professional. Keep smiling

Carole, can you remember the name of the oven cleaner you bought at Aldi? Our oven really needs a good clean and I was considering getting a professional in to do it (our daughter did for hers and it was brilliant). If it can be done by ourselves it would be better still.

We shop at Aldi every week after first going to Asda.

I have just read your profile message. You certainly enjoy life Carole. I do too but am now finding I have to stop frequently even when using my oxygen up to my limit of 5litres. I always seem to walk at a snails pace now.

I don't want to go down the mobility scooter road just yet, but I know that day will come!!!

Sorry can't remember the name, but you will probably find it in there. We shop in Aldis every week after going to Sainsburys! I have 2 mobility scooters one for in the car and one for going into town. I love the independence of it and I live in a hilly area so it is a boon. I also have a rollator which I use on the flat for visits to the garden centre etc., just dump my oxygen in it and am away, can walk further with it as it is like using a shopping trolley to lean on.

Thanks for all your help. Best of all is that when I was telling my man some of the replies and how great it was that people were so helpful and how fantastic this site is he said he should do it himself! Result.

It may be worth paying for someone to do it. There are specialists .

Bicarbonate of soda, sprinkle in oven rub in with damp cloth, wash it off, repeat if necessary. Only works if oven isn't too bad. x

I used Amway they used to have reps going round like avon but the steam sounds good how much does it cost for someone to come in and clean your oven
