not sure about that i know my index finger for some reason wont show a reading and thats on any oximeter guess my finger must be dead lol

Probably 1st 3 fingers, index, middle and ring finger are the usual. I usually do index or middle finger, be aware if hands cold, if you are wearing nail polish or if you still smoke you will not get an accurate reading.

Hi BC, why is that, especially the nail polish? (You learn things every day here :) )

I believe it is to do with the sensors, although I expect you will find contradictory evidence if you did a web search, but check with respiratory nurse or doctor concerning accuracy of ones own finger pulse oximeter and what may interfere with getting an accurate reading when using it at home or out and about.

Usually the finger pulse oximeter comes with guidelines about things that may affect getting an accurate reading also.

I always take mine on index or 3rd finger on either hand. Mine always vary when I take reading when I am resting from 91-95.

An Oximeter will give a reading using any finger. Some fingers are more commonly used than others though.

Where can you buy an Oximeter from, and, how much do they cost?

You can buy wherever, ebay, amazon, any health care or medical site. They vary in price from around £17 to £200+. My pharmacist said, with finger pulse oximeters, you get what you pay for.

I got mine from a company called clinical guard, it cost around £36 a few years back. It gives the same reading accuracy as the medical professional ones (usually a top of the range nonin).

I bought mine off Amazon web site. Prices vary but about 20 quid seems to be right. On the subject of readings, I find that sometimes my skin is too dry to get a reading but if just use a surgical wipe or a wet wipe everything works fine.

Hi all,

Amazon is good for Oxymeters, but be sure to get one that also shows your pulse rate.

I was told to alternate between first three fingers, on either hand. Note: women with mastectomies should always test the opposite side, hand only. Val

Amazon not the best. lots of problems!!
