Hi Jean

Sorry that you are feeling so tired. Has the doctor put you on oxygen or tested your oxygen sats. My husband has COPD and falls asleep a lot. But he has now been diagnosed with an under active thyroid.

Do you manage to sleep at night my husband wakes up many times to go to the 'loo' and so gets his sleep pattern out of sync. It is more of a problem if you have a job.

I hope this problem gets better for you, and someone else on this site has some advice for you.

Jean

thanks for the reply. My doctor has refered me to see the practice nurse for futher tests I just feel that I am getting no help . I am still working but I sleep all night and I could sleep all day as well

Hi it is miserable being so tired. Have you talked to your doctor it maybe you have a sleep disorder and not sleeping as well as you think. I must say my husband is much more tired since having Copd but can still work . Though having said that didn't sleep one wink on Saturday so we are both exhausted! Perhaps the blf helpline could advise. Hope you find the answer soon TAD x x

Hi jean 115

I was like u at the start but months down the line now seen a consultant given steroids and spiriva all infections cleared and feel a lot better, think its part of copd am afraid but worse if you have an infection see your nurse ask for X-ray to check your chest for infection and if she prescribes inhaler that should help as most if us are in inhalers, otherwise rest eat a good diet and early nights to bed! I am still working full time

Several years ago I has a series of chest infections, antibiotics and steroids. One Friday in May I knew I was starting again and did not have emergency supplies, the GP no longer held a Saturday surgery so I went to the Walk in Centre. The nurse spent half an hour with me, left the room then returned with the news there was a Medical Emergency room at the local hospital. I have had Asthma and Bronchiectasis all of my life but had never been admitted as an emergency before. Not only that but it was a mixed sex ward, yuk!

After three nights I was sent home with a new chest consultant and a new sleep consultant - I had snored and kept everyone awake. Sleep tests were carried out, I also answered a questionnaire which highlighted how I was falling asleep at any time then I was told I had Obstructive Sleep Apnea. I now have a CPAP machine to sleep with and I no longer collapse in a heap.

As far as I was concerned I was sleeping OK. I had been made aware that I snored but no one knew that I also stopped breathing. That is what makes you tired, the 'resting' brain is forced to divert its attention to to restarting the breathing or you die!
