I don't have this problem, but I would suggest perhaps ringing the BLF helpline for further advice and guidance on this. telephone 03000 030 555 between 10 am to 5pm weekdays.

Hello, I don't know how much blood you are spitting. I had a problem with spots of blood in mucous and this proved to be nothing to worry about, just small blood vessels in my throat bursting because I was coughing so hard. However, if there are larger amounts I would want to know where they were coming from. I don't think your GP is being very helpful. Maybe ringing the BLF, as BC suggested, would be a good starting point to find out the cause. I believe they are now open from 9 a.m. x
Like Toic said it's probably nothing more than likely it's a blood vessel but it is worth getting it checked out by your dr. Better safe than sorry that's my motto.
I sometimes cough discoloured mucus with blood streaks in the morning, but I wonder if it comes from my sinuses as I also have a headache, and slight bleeding in my nose.... it doesn't happen at any other time.
My optician says that a headache that wakes you up can be sinus related.
Coughing blood from your lungs though should be investigated and you could ask your gp if your sinuses are ok
hello you need to go to see your doctor , sometime i cough blood ,i have emphysema COPD, I always go to my doctor for antibiotics ,
Funny you should say that ... !
I did have that situation and came to the conclusion it was dried blood from the roof of my mouth because it was incredibly dry in the mornings ... couldn't find any bleeding tooth or gum areas ... I did buy some dry mouth gel which felt good and it seems to have stopped. I have no idea whether this is connected though!
Apparently, sucking hard sweets can have this effect but it's got to be worth checking with a health professional.
Hope you get sorted and it's something stupid!

I woke the other night coughing up mouthfuls of blood, very frightening, called the ambulance the guys took one look and blue lighted me to hospital. The doctor in Resus explained that although it looked bad it was in fact no worse than a nose bleed, but the blood had run downwards and was attempting to drown me.
Once he calmed me down things did not seem so bad, a combination of chest infection and warfarin seems to have been the cause.
It did however destroy the pure wool cream carpet in the bedroom. So if you get the same you might not quite so frightened as I was, but try to see how much blood you have coughed up, it's important to the doctors
