Breathe Easy Support - New developments in the East Midlands

As part of a 2 year project funded by the Big Lottery, the BLF is working in partnership with healthcare professionals and commissioners to develop new Breathe Easy support groups in the East Midlands. The development of these groups follows a project the BLF worked on in 2011 in the West Midlands, which demonstrated how, by working with their local respiratory teams, Breathe Easy groups can help people to understand and manage their lung conditions.

As a starting point for 2 of these new groups, public meetings will take place in September and anyone with an interest in lung health is welcome to attend. The meetings will be an opportunity to learn about living with lung disease, to find out about the support available from the BLF and to hear about the new Breathe Easy groups. If you’d like to come along we would love to see you (and your carers, spouses, family etc) there. Details are below.

If you have any questions or would like to know more, contact the BLF Helpline on 03000 030 555. Volunteers are always welcome so if you, or someone you know would like to get involved in supporting these groups we would be delighted to hear from you.

16 September 2013, 1:30pm at St. Paulinus Hall, Church Circle, Ollerton, Nottinghamshire, NG22 9SZ.

The meeting will include a talk and a Q&A session from the Newark & Sherwood Respiratory Team

25 September 2013, 1:30pm at The Post Mill Centre, Market Street, South Normanton, DE55 2EJ.

This meeting has been organised in partnership with Hardwick Clinical Commissioning Group and will include a talk on ‘Managing Your Lung Disease’ from a local GP.

1 October 2013, 11:30am at Beechdale Community Centre, Ambergate Rd, Nottingham, NG8 3GD.

This meeting is supported by Nottingham CityCare’s Integrated Respiratory Service. The guest speaker is to be confirmed, and there will be an opportunity to get involved in planning the new group.

We are also starting to work on new groups in inner-city Leicester and South East Lincolnshire – watch this space for future developments!

Hi Bill6. Your nearest group will be BE Nottingham West, who meet in Eastwood. If you give the BLF Helpline a call on 03000 030 555 they will be able to give you all the info, and you can also have a look at the group's page on the BLF website (blf.org.uk).
