Ribs

With all my visits to the specialists I am surprised that not one of them have commented on the fact that one side of my rib cage looks more curved and protrudes.... Has anyone else got such a funny problem like this.. And does anyone know if this is in anyway connected with emphysema?

Hi HatherS

I believe this is due to having emphysema - my partner who had emphysema also had a very noticeable protuding/rounded rib cage also. Sadly he passed away in 2006 and I have also have emphysema myself after being diagnosed 2 months ago!!! I woiuldn't be surprised if, at some stage my rib cage looked more curved!

Stay well honey

Hi rastagilly I am sorry to hear your sad news.

Thank you for replying..... I seem to only have one side of my ribs that are rounded... It looks odd....

I am a bit concerned that the docs say I have mild/moderate emphysema and have rounded ribs now though....

At what stage have they said your emphysema is at?

Hi Heather. I have been told that I have moderate emphysema & 65% lung capacity. My partner's rib cage was rounded on both sides - maybe it would be worth mentioning it to your GP or consultant on ur next visit and see what they say about it.

My spirometry results were 63% and they said I was mild on the border of being moderate.... I wished the GPS would decide which assessing tool they are using and just stick to one .... They confuse you.... Well me at least lol

I am having a ct scan on 1st July so that would tell me if anything to worry about... Take care
