I visited my advisor at Prospects today (where the Jobcentre sends you when you have been out of work for over a year.

Its supposed to be a work programme. I see an advisor every 2 weeks for 10 minutes and thats all. I asked them about any courses available. Apart from computers they offer a course in care work. Thats it. When I said there wasn't much help now I was told the Govt. have cut a lot of the funding. I was told that my time with them was 2 years. I asked what would happen if I didn't get a job by then. Was told I would be closely monitored by the Jobcentre and they would want me to work closely with a personal advisor to help me back to work. I guess if I can't get a job then I might be sanctioned. It seems its all my fault there is very little work in my area and no one wants a 59 year old with health problems who was sacked for illness from my previous job. What a life hey?

They don't have any courses to be an advisor at the JobCentre then ?

I would have thought that is one of the few boom industries left... :O

That was one of the first questions I asked

iIwas on one of those gateway to work programmes too, run by SERCO (The biggest firm no one ever heard of) all that happened was every two weeks i took a four mile bus journey, wheezed into the office, signed a piece of paper for the refund of my bus-fare four pounds seventy pence and came home again a total waste of time to all concerned.........M

I to am joining prospect soon,,,had the choice of staying with j,centre or prospect,,i,m 60 so gave Prospect a ring to see what they do (not a lot by the sound of it),there are no jobs round here except seasonal, so i will be quite happy to see them for 10 mins every fortnight,,apart from puffing everywhere have rhumatoid in my hands so re training for anything will be hard, and besides who will employ you,,,would be so easier for them to say , look she,s unemployable, always going to have problems breathing , give her early retirement and save money for re-training the younger ones,,,but no this will go on for the next 2yrs and 10 months,,,,,

It's been reported recently that job centre staff are pro-actively encouraged to sanction claimants for the least deviation on their job hunting contract. In one job centre, the manager was even offering easter eggs to the advisor who could sanction the most claimants ....

There are few real opportunities for employment around; even the governments own job search site is bloated with regurgitated bogus and fake job entries. I don't know about anyone else on JSA, but my weekly job alert email from the government site, always ended up in my spam folder. That's because my spam filter detected spurious coding highly suggestive of malware....

What a farce - especially as from what we have seen with this government's track record no one in their right mind would employ any of them to even change a light bulb, yet alone run a country - useless waste of space they are - with no conception of what reality is for the non-millionaires of this world....... apologies for rant but just makes me so mad to see good people suffer for no good reason ....and yet again private companies making money out of that ....

There used to be a benefit that could be claimed if a person was unemployable for any reason, some smart idiot decided to do away with it. Imagine a person who has to take medication for the rest of their life that if they are teased, provoked or even just told off for making an honest mistake, would be, say either physically or verbally aggressive, who is going to employ them? The answer is no one so

no one cares do they? I'm not sure I do anymore
