36 hours without a ciggie. Will I stay off them this time. I do feel ashamed at letting my self down, and my poor lungs x x x
Will I be able to do it this time - Lung Conditions C...
Will I be able to do it this time
You can do it just think of the money you can save xxx
Well done with the 36 hours. It's really hard, I know. Still off them after 11 days, but had a few wobbly moments myself today, and surprised myself that I got through it.
What are you doing to come off them? Nicotine patches or the nicorette inhalators, or the gum, or the tablets?
I know there's people on here using the e-ciggie. Me, I'm cold turkeying this and currently munching on carrot sticks, cucumber, maltesers, wind gums and any other nibbles I can get my hands on!
Please don't feel ashamed, or that you are letting yourself down. I took this on one ciggie at a time, and every craving I overcame, I rewarded myself with a treat. There were lots of cravings and oodles of treats, but I've done it, and you will too.
Just find Mr Will Power, he's lurking around there somewhere, and he's been a brilliant help. Again, congratulations for going 36 hours

All that and avoid temptation ie. don't have any in the house, avoid the paper shop etc.
Good luck as one who's done and felt the benefit, it is so worth it.
Well done on so far,
Good luck,
Chris
Medow .Listen to nowheeze. She can guide you through any temptation. And come on here when you need to talk. DON'T start again. I AM SHOUTING!!
Seriously Nowheeze your not on WIND gums are you ? hee hee, in which case your Grand dog will be keeping his distance. No well done on 11 days your doing great especially as you have had a difficult day, keep going your winning x x xx x
Medow you can do this tell yourself that you do not want your life controlled by a drug ( It helped me when I gave up ) try to concentrate on the positive things about being a non smoker. Please do not give your self a hard time if you give in, just keep on trying it takes most people several attempts before they win. Best wishes Julie x x x
burp! excuse me, how rude ... these wine gums are playing havoc with my digestion x x
Too many wine gums bet you would fail a breathalyser, after eating that lot. xx xx
Hi Julie, just as well I don't drive LOL And I've got to be quick or Ben snatches the wine gums out my hand, the little terror that he is ....

Oh no a drunken dog. Does he get the collie wobbles when drunk on wine gums ? x x x
LOL, oh Julie, this pup doesn't need anything to make him hyper .... he's naturally juiced up all the time

Thank you for your great support, have given up before, them it was the odd one here and there, then bought a pack that took me a week to get through, (instead of a pack a day) then came a very stressful time indeed, and yesterday I realised I've a cough back, and that I'd smoked 10 ciggies the day before, so the patch went on, wont use an e cig as too much like the real thing for me and I might be tempted to have the odd one gear and there, thank you again, but will try wine gums ! Hubby, I think, has had two much wind gums ! x x x
That's the spirit! I've found when the nasty cravings strike, I try to take as deep a breath as I can manage, and as slowly as possible, exhale. While I'm doing that, and it does take concentration, I try to think of something else to take my mind off the craving - be it a job that needs to be done, a possible answer to a cross-word puzzle, anything at all that will distract me .. and once I'm over it, my hand automatically reaches for a treat. Then I give myself an imaginary pat on the back, and get on with my day ..... until the next craving starts ..... and I repeat the process.
This is working for me.... let us in on what you do to avert the cravings. You're doing so well, and should be so pleases with yourself.

ps. I'm now down to one box of maltesers a day, two packets of wine gums, 6 carrots and a cucumber. My waistline may not be thanking me, but my breathing sure is
Hour by hour!
You are chosing not to smoke! Remind yourself, it is your choice.
Stick with it!
Lots of support and stories on this site to help and remind you that you are doing the right thing
Best wishes

I won't go into detail of how I stopped, 2/3 packs of Benson a day. Got out of bed and had an attack and seriously thought my next stop was going to be the chapel of rest. I could not even clean my teeth no breath or power. I have not had or wanted a fag since that day about 9 yrs ago. Next time you crave for a fag go and sit on the bench at the local cemetery and reflect before you actually light up. Sorry if it seems a bit harsh. Have a good weekend.
understand how you feel, I stopped in January, and haven't touched a real cig since. Cravings are awful, but have found ecigs useful, and treating myself to cream cakes, and making cups of tea or coffee etc instead of going outside to light a cig. Willpower is difficult, but you CAN do it, keep trying, well done so far.
Course you can do. You will be letting your lungs down if you dont. Just be determined and treat yourself with the money you save. I know its hard I smoked for 53 years before giving up nearly 3 years ago. My friends and family never thought I would quit but I proved them wrong and felt proud for doing it. Joyce
Keep it up Medow (and no wheeze). It's not easy, but so worth it.
Those of us who have done it have probably tried several times before success, I know I did. We all have used different ways to get there too. I did it with. Champix, but others ways work just as well.
I have been a non smoker for 18 months now, and don't even think about it any more. In fact, it stopped dominating my thoughts after about 6 weeks.
Good luck.
PS. We are going on a river cruise in Germany, all inclusive on a posh boat for 8 nights. All paid for by the fags I didn't smoke.

Only ever feel ashamed of not trying,I am now 4 months without a ciggarette, but i know this time is for good, I rarely get a craving to smoke, my wife is on the electronic fags next to me all evening, when we go to our local, most of our drinking buddies still smoke,at first this was the hardest time, but now all i notice is the odour as they come back in from the smoke shelter, also listening to them telling me how cold they are, personally i smoked 20-40 a day for 40yrs, i would never have thought that it was possible to pack in, but given the point where you can hardly walk or breathe, is a great incentive to get there,it was three years ago when first diagnosed with COPD, and it has taken untill now to finaly say that i have quit, you will know when that has happened to you, i just it hope it happens a lot sooner for you, but remember the only shame is in not trying, you will prevail and best wishes.
Is it still going well. You can do it. Dont beat yourself up it took me years but eventually I did. Save the money and give yourself a treat.
Good luck Naneal
Mmmmmm another, another patch, feeling a little optimistic with your support x x x
You have cleared the first hurdle by going that first day I always think that's the hardest. You can get prescriptions for patches and aids to help you stop from your smoking cessation clinic. It helped me going there. It's now 20 months since I stopped.Keep it up there are several people on this site who are in the early stages of stopping and I'm sure they will help you, Gail
well done take it day by day - good luck
Well done. Iused to sit and knit. Have 5 jumpers now waiting to be sewn up! The wool only cost me what I'd saved on ciggies so as I hate sewing they can wait.
You have so many friends supporting you, you are not alone. Please stick with it!
Best of luck x
Doing ok, chest feels tight, with your support and thinking myself into believing I've just put one out, and patches ............. Hard though x x
