Does a course of prednisilone help either persistent clear mucus from lungs?

I suffer from coughing up clear mucus, mainly in winter. Asthma medications don’t seem to help but my GP prescribed pred. 🤞🤞

I find Prenisolone helps, but only while I'm actually taking it...my GP won't let me have it all the time

Prednisolone is for lowering inflammation, so it can help if it's lowering the inflammation of airways or sinuses making a little more space for mucus to escape. It also helps if you drink plenty of fluids to help liquefy the excess mucus. ( if its too thick it can be difficult to get out anyway whereverit comes from - in my experience). I take a prescribed mucolytic to help soften lung mucus. P

I spend a lot of time on prednisolone, it stops the eosinophilic element of my asthma, gives me a window of time to clear my goop congested chest, once I'm off its it comes straight back, but it's definitely helpful for reducing inflammation and aiding mucus clearance, I hope it helps you, but be mindful it's not without it's own problems sadly, lots of good wishes x N

Good morning, I was getting repeated chest infection late last year. Had repeated doses of 5-7 days of antibiotics but cough never cleared properly. After CT scan diagnosed with mild Bronchiectasis. I was advised that I was to have 14 days of antibiotics should I have chest infection again. Had 1 bout given 14 antibiotics end of January and respiratory physio…. So far so good, is all I’ll say 👍🤞🏻

Definitely - but not to be relied on too often.

Thanks. I imagine that it must open the airways to help to expectorate.

I had lots of mucous and coughing only to find it was acid reflux after seeing a specialist and keeping a food diary. Have meds for that now and was life changing.
