Chest infection

Hello. About a month and a half ago I had a chest infection. I took antibiotics, the doctor said I didn't need steroid pills this time. I had a check-up a week ago and the doctor said that my chest was clear. I'm worried because I still don't feel well. I have coughing attacks and I feel that my cough is quite heavy. How long after infection does it take to get back to the state it was before? Thank you for all your answers..

Hi , I have had a bad chest infection and dry cough for 4 weeks it’s been awful but it’s just getting better . My chest was tight though so was given prednisolone which opens the airways . If you can breath ok but still coughing it sounds like you just have to get through it , however if you are bringing up any yellow mucus then i would go back to your Dr and ask for a sputum test to see if there is an infection still there . honey and lemon and steam helps me

Hi ewusa. How long is it now - six weeks? It must be very warning for you. I would have expected you to have seen some improvement by now. If you haven’t I would start following your asthma plan if you have one - it could possibly be asthma related. It might also be an idea to have a chat with your asthma nurse or another chat with your GP. Try to make sure you are taking plenty of fluids. Sorry I can’t be more helpful.
