I've been prescribed Pregabalin for my Chronic pain but advised about the risks of respiratory depression and with my asthma being so bad I'm cautious about taking it. Has anyone else ever taken it? They've only given me a very low dose but I'm still wary.

Pregabalin
I think you need to discuss with your asthma medic. Though it might be a good idea asking the asthma helpline on 0300 2225800 if they have a view on it.
I'm on gabapentin,in same group of medications.it doesn't affect my breathing.its a huge help with nerve pain( neuropathy)
Hi I've taken pregabalin for 7 years for nerve pain no respiratory issues I was on pregabalin before that but didn't stop the pain. I have asthma and Copd and of late my chest deteriorated not because of medication probably covid over a year ago. Speak to your Dr and weigh up the pros and cons. You can always stop pregabalin if any side effects. Being in severe pain can effect your breathing too . Good luck I hope you sorted soon. 🤞
Stop taking it , before you're body has a tolerance to it and needs more. It will get worse, I had to wean myself off it. I wasn't able to breathe after month and it was hell. Get some proper advice , this is a crazy choice for someone with asthma
Not necessarily a crazy choice, it all depends upon if you react to it and not everyone will, like aspirin and ibuprofen some react badly others don't and sometimes it's worth the risk. I'm taking Carbamazepine which has a warning for asthmatics but it was worth trying to relieve the nerve pain in my head which was stopping my from doing anything.
Hi Orangatang, please avoid telling another person on the forum that they should or shouldn't take a medication or that it's 'crazy', even if it isn't for asthma.
I appreciate you had a bad time with it and you're trying to be helpful, and it's fine to say that personally you didn't get on well with it as someone who also has asthma. Or to let them know that a treatment *can* trigger asthma for some people if they aren't aware - not the case here as Lilmix03 has been told this when it was prescribed.
But you and Lilmix03 are not the same person, and you know nothing about them and their body or their life, and are not their doctor. It isn't necessarily a crazy choice for someone else even if it wasn't a good one for you, and this forum is not the place for giving direct medical advice to other users.
As Gareth57 says, not all asthmatics react the same way to everything.
