Diagnosed with COPD have been using Albuteral for emergency use, but looking for a long term treatment. Anyone happy with drug you have used for a long time?

I cant answer your question, but I am sure others will be able to share their experiences. Everyones treatment is different so what works for one will not work for others.

Hi arnierjr.

There are lots of things you can take. I have Fostair 200/6 2 puffs twice a day and a Fostair 100/6 to add in on top of this when necessary. I also take Spivira Respimat (the higher dose) two puffs once a day, Montelukast and a blue inhaler to be used as nescessay. I know some people take Trimbow, but this is not suitable for me as I need a higher dose of steroid inhaler as asthma is the driving force for me.

Have a chat with your medical provider and see what they suggest.

Hi, treatments and/or prescribing could be different here in UK wher we have a different health system and probably different brands of medication/ inhalers. Personally, I dont have copd but take Fostair 100/6 mdi which is of the MART regime, (MART meaning: it works as a preventer taken as prescribed daily and also as a rescue inhaler as & when needed). I also have Ventolin or Salamol as rescue/emergency inhaler however, I rarely need this one because the Fostair works so well..........but this is me, we are all different.

I have asthma and Small Airways Disease.

If you feel like your Albuteral isn't sufficient for your needs you must seek medical advice - especially with winter coming.

Good luck, P

NB I must stress in case it looks Iike it, I'm not for a moment recommending a medication, just attempting to re-enforce the necessity in getting medical support and explaining my own experience. P

Hi, I agree with others that this is individual and what works for others may not work for you (plus the fact we're in the UK so may have different options).

While you're more than welcome to join and post here, this may also not be the most helpful place for you as the focus here is on asthma not COPD (though some members may have both). Have you looked at this forum, which has more members with COPD? healthunlocked.com/asthmalu...

We're also a bit limited that we can't really recommend medications to other users, as it can easily turn into giving medical advice which isn't allowed. I'd personally be very wary of recommending anything specific to another user, and that goes even more if they have a different condition as the approach can be different (for example everyone with asthma currently is recommended to take inhaled steroids, but those may not be appropriate for some people with COPD).
