I'm so sorry - it can be really hard when you are surrounded by people who don't 'get' what it's like. But remember their opinions do not define your worth!

Could you see if there are any local support groups in your area? Or maybe if you are well enough, try to find some kind of group you can join to learn something new and make friends who might be more supportive? Feeling isolated makes things so much harder.

If not, remember we are always here!

Good morning. Yes I get what you mean. Sadly it doesn't matter who it is. They never fully understand unless they have been through the same problems that your going through. They keep suggesting doing things that you know is beyond your capability and I don't know about you but I am reluctant to give up and use a mobility scooter. Brian

Not good enough? What is good enough? This sort of thing really makes me cross. Nobody should make you feel like this. Of course you are good enough - most of us are. Don't buy in to this negativity. It only makes you worse. Talk to a good friend who can list your good points and work on anything you can do well - are you a good listener? Can you be positive about other people? If you are not well enough to go out much, look for an online support group for people with chronic illnesses - it doesn't need to be asthma. Think of things that make you feel good. Apart from chocolate. There are loads of positive quotations you could keep by you if you like that sort of thing. You can shake those flamingo feathers and be awesome.

Sadly, I do know what you mean. Family can be the worst as well for making you feel this way even though they're the ones we most need for support. Over the years I have become much firmer with my boundaries and what I can and can't do to stay as well as I can. If people can't see that you're trying your best then my advice is to find good friends (not always easy) that listen and appreciate you for all that you are. If that fails then we're always here!

I'm a musician and I'm ok for a while with the asthma as I'm on drugs but after a while they wreck my health and I have to let the bands down. Nobody gets it, they think you're swinging the lead. I don't need friends, I need a good consultant so I can have a life.

Yeahhhhh, my father was a Head Teacher & he never had a day off. It made me a workaholic when my health was OK, so I got into a pattern of boom & bust! Never felt I was good enough. He saw illness as a weakness? 😭Looking back, he gave me the drive and determination to try and be the best I can be with my health limitations. I have achieved so much in my life because of that 🥲
