Not sure if anyone can help with this question. I’m on prednisilone for a flare up. Had one week at 40 mg. I’m now tapering by five mg each day. I have just found out my grandson may have chicken pox. I didn’t know until some time after I had been with him. Do I need to do anything. I can’t get.Much information online. They have come over from Europe for Easter. And to visit with family. It’s not confirmed he has but his mum suspects as it’s rampant in his nursery. Any advice welcome.

I seem to remember that there maybe concerns about chicken pox and steroids. I suggest you contact your gp and ask them about it. I would do this as a matter of urgency because of the long bank holiday weekend.

Hi, I'm wondering if there's any information on the leaflet inside the prednisolone pack?

Have you had the shingles jab?

hopefully someone reading this will have a look at their leaflet for the contraindications. Or perhaps someone who's had shingles will let you know that perhaps they were prescribed pred as a treatment.......the NHS website will give information on the treatment for shingles I'm sure. P

The advice is, if you're on Prednisolone and haven't had chickenpox to avoid the individual with CP, as catching it can make you seriously ill. And if you have been in contact with someone with CP you should contact your GP immediately. Same goes for other infectious diseases (e.g. measles, shingles etc).

If you Google "Prednisolone and chickenpox" there's quite a few hits, all alerting to the risks.

It may be prudent to talk to your GP anyway, just so they can advise you.

go just called. As I’ve had chicken pox and have had it no worries. Only long term prednisilone could be a problem. So good news.

That's good to know. Enjoy Easter with your family and I hope you get over this flare up quickly.

Hi Dizzy,

It is an issue if you have a compromised immune system. Phone your surgery, 111 or pharmacist for best advice. Or today the Asthma UK nurses, whats app or phone them. It will depend a bit on if you have had chicken pox or have had the immunisation against them.

Cheers R
