Not usually with a supermarket, except perhaps if I'm already twitchy and going warm-cold-warm. Certain aisles can be a problem (frozen goods if I'm already twitchy and sometimes washing powders if strongly scented).
Perfume/soaps/home fragrances in department stores are bad - discovered this in Selfridges, all the posh soaps did not help and the ladies' was that floor gahh. Lush is difficult to even walk past!
The White Company and some other home shops insist on having strong scent which makes them a no-go for me. 'Alternative' shops often have incense and/or fragrance - good job I didn't have these problems as a teenager as I liked to wear slightly gothy clothes and those shops are usually scented. I once had a ridiculous episode (not even as a teenager) where my brother was getting me some earrings as a birthday present and I was choosing some, but I couldn't go inside the shop! He had to go inside and hold them up while I pointed and messaged 🤣🤣The shop owner thought we were mad and he had to explain.
Also one or two clothes shops - Oasis experimented with it which I just thought was unnecessary. I can kind of understand it in a home goods shop or somewhere selling nice soap but clothes?? I did try holding my breath to browse once (I was in my 20s, they had nice clothes!) but the friend I was visiting forcibly removed me saying she had plans for us that didn't involve A&E. It's a good job my friends have sense when I don't lol.
It's not that I react to all fragrances, but when a shop sells a mix there's usually something, especially if it's a higher quality one and there's lavender or rose which there usually is. And incense is smoky AND scented.
Funny you should say that Homely, I went in Morrisons earlier in the week and I started having a coughing fit I left then used my inhaler to recover, I stupidly went back again today and same thing happened again literally just got back now and feel fine apart from being sore from all the coughing. Very strange.
