Hi Jene! Welcome to this friendly forum.

I can only speak for myself, of course, but having had severe asthma & other lung problems all my life, I’d’ve been dead many times over were it not for prescribed drugs, esp antibiotics and steroids. I feel lucky to have reached 69, unlike eg my father, who died of respiratory failure at the age of 39.

The thing is, what would you replace modern medicines with?

I agree with Hanne. I would much rather not be taking prescribed medication. But without these meds I would have died several times ago or be confined to bed and be unable to work or play.

Is there a real alternative ?

I have to agree with the others. If you have asthma, you need to take the medication prescribed to you - it may need a bit of trial and error with you and your doctor to get the right medications, but you need to take them. If you're getting serious side effects from your medication, discuss that with your GP/asthma nurse/consultant and see what alternative medications you can try (some people can have a really hard time with certain medications and not others, so it's definitely not one size fits all).

There is plenty of evidence that not taking your asthma medication as prescribed leads to worse outcomes. Asthma is a serious condition and can be fatal.

Before diagnosis, I spent two years struggling for breath. I put on 3 stone because I couldn't exercise much (and exercise was a trigger so made my breathing worse). I felt ill pretty much all the time and wasn't able to enjoy life - just day to day living was a struggle.

I really can't see that my medication is doing me harm compared to the way I was living before.
