A recent X-Ray reveals that my lungs are hyperinflated which may be a factor in extreme breathlessness and low peak flow (40) diagnosed as chronic asthma. Does anyone have experience of hyperinflation and its treatment?

Hyperinflation/asthma
I've been told various times I've got hyperinflation, it's due to air trapping for me in acute attacks (but also partially related to my Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome). The treatment needed to help it in acute asthma attacks depends on severity. For me though it's usually Ventolin/Atrovent nebulisers (with the Ventolin ones being back to back), magnesium IV and hydrocortisone IV. Sometimes we skip the magnesium if I've recently (within the last two weeks) had it already. For someone who has it chronically, I'm not sure. Perhaps it's something to ask your specialist (assuming you have one?). Maybe respiratory physiotherapy and/or pulmonary rehabilitation would work? Not sure.
I have never had it, but our daughter did when young. It was quite quickly sorted once she got medication that actually worled for her. It doesn't quite compare with you as she was very young, and it was in the day when ventolin was the first thing you did. Steroid inhalers were not used then as now. I suppose my basic message is that if 'they' can get your medications ringt there should be a good chance of it going.
