If your doctor has prescribed Prednisolone specifically for pleurisy then they deem that you need this treatment. But if you're thinking of using an emergency supply of Pred prescribed for asthma, don't without first discussing with your doctor.I assume you've been diagnosed and so the doctor would have prescribed antibiotics if bacterial in nature, otherwise if it's viral the treatment is usually pain relief and rest.

Just make sure you taper down! I hope you're feeling better soon. I know pleurisy can be quite painful.

I have taken steroids and antibiotics when had pleurisy, and had pleurisy at least 4 X BUT gp always been aware or prescribed steroids. Also if taken for longer than 2 weeks have required a tapering process which again gp arranged. I only have a weeks worth of steroids and antibiotics in my rescue pack so if needed for longer than gp prescription required but in those circumstances I would want gp to be aware anyway.

Pleurisy is horrible and has made me extremely unwell. I wish you much better soon.
