Propranolol?

I've recently spent a few days in hospital due to heart palpitations and fast heart rate the doctors prescribed me a very low dose of propranolol incase it happens again to take as and when , when I asked is it okay to take with asthma he was like hit and miss depends on the person! Has anyone ever been okay taking both ? Or shall I steer clear ? X

He's right, in that it depends on the patient and their asthma. In the main, beta blockers aren't prescribed for patients with asthma. The patient leaflet does state that if your asthma symptoms worsen to contact your doctor. It may be prudent to discuss this medication with your asthma specialist who can liaise with the prescribing doctor as there will be other solutions.

I was put on two different types of med for blood pressure and on each occasion my asthma consultant got them changed as they're not generally good for asthmatics and the second was definitely affecting my asthma.

Yes, I have been taking 20mg propranolol daily for anxiety for 45 years and was diagnosed with late-onset asthma 6 years ago. I have never been asked to stop propranolol though, if I tended to suffer from asthma attacks, I imagine propranolol would be contraindicated. Instead, I just have some congestion and my mucous production may be affected but, overall, I don't really notice any problem.

Hey. Yes I used to take it and I have asthma. It worked pretty well and I got no complications using it. I later stopped using it but the tachycardia went down.
