hi all hope everyone is well, sorry not posted for a while, but ive been struggling for over a year with my asthma. shortness of breath I dont wheeze but have cough variant. this past year I have had course after course of pred as this is the only thing that has worked, and as soon as drs take me of them I go downhill again. Finally after 2 years had follow up with consultant who seems to think nothing has changed but has taken me off salbutamol and put me on fostair. which at the moment isn't making a great deal of difference . ive been on it a week and already have a sore throat from it and thats using and aero chamber. ive never had properly controlled asthma and dont wish to go back to hospital is a week long enough to know its not going to work for me? how has anyone else found changing over?

When you say salbutamol to Fostair, do you mean as a reliever? So you take Fostair twice a day and then extra in the day if needed? Or were you literally only on salbutamol before and now you've got Fostair?

What exactly were you on before basically, and what are you on now?

But if the Fostair is totally new then it will take about 8 weeks to kick in.

This post explains inhalers in detail if you want some background reading:

Looks like from old posts you were on Flutiform (LABA inhaler) and Incruse (LAMA inhale) a year ago. Now your doctor has taken you off Salbutamol and put you on Fostair ( LABA inhaler). I assume you're no longer on Flutiform but still on Incruse?

It may be your doctor thinks the fine particles in Fostair will suit you better as they go further into the lungs. The steroid in Fostair is different to the one in Flutiform so will take at least 4 weeks to make a difference. If you're symptoms persist at 8 weeks then definitely time to review the efficacy of your new treatment with your doctor.

It's important to rinse your mouth thoroughly, and possibly gargle, after every Fostair use. If I get a sore throat from it I start using Listerine and that stops things in their tracks.

Another thing to be aware if is silent reflux, which can irritate the respiratory system, causing asthma symptoms and coughing. asthma.org.uk/advice/manage...

hi thats correct I was on flutiform and the foster is my new reliever. I still take the incruse. I always rinse my mouth after using but its not having much effect. I take is using a aero chamber which is meant to help but cant carry that around at work when I need a reliever. will give it a few weeks and hope things improve.
