recently diagnosed with asthma. Began with Symbicort DPI, but suffered a number of side effects. Have changed to Seritide inhaler, but am left with acid reflux side effect from Symbicort. Has anyone experienced something similar? Has the change in meds resulted in the reflux dissipating over time? Any tips on how to manage greatly welcome. Thank you

Acid Reflux from Symbicort
Hi avass
Sorry, I haven't any experience of either of those inhalers as I take fostair. I do know that most inhalers take a while to get used to (and to take effect) and that side effects can sometimes subside over time. Have you tried gaviscon advance to help with the acid reflux? I'm sure someone with more experience of those meds will be along soon X
Hello AVass,
Im sorry to hear that you are suffering reflux after only being recently diagnosed with asthma, I suffer from reflux which started about 3/4 years after diagnosis but which I was told was caused by my coughing loosening the stomach sphincter (muscular ring that keeps the stomach closed). The diagnosis is GORD, maybe you could ask your doctor about it. I’ve been on different inhalers but it’s always been there. I was prescribed Omeprazole to treat it, but I take only 10 mg a day now as it’s long term side effect is osteoporosis. If I’ve had a meal which aggravates the reflux I agree with Jollygood, try Gavison Advance, very effective. Stay off fatty and spicy foods. Oh, and chocolate, it will definitely help! All good wishes 😊 x
Yes I have the same side effect. Took about a month for it to begin. I’m stopping it now and see if it gets better.
