Several drugs seem to worsen my asthma. Proton pump inhibitor (stomach acid suppression) is one such drug (some time even antibiotic). Though the interference of asthma drug with heart disease is well documented. The interference of non-asthmatic drugs with asthma is not well known. Any experience and expertise to reduce the worsening of asthma are welcome.
Do you feel any non-asthmatic drugs i... - Asthma Community ...
Do you feel any non-asthmatic drugs interferes with your asthma?
Yes. Tho typically mine are in the codeine or ibuprofen branches (so anything that has the same root... morphine etc, or mefanamic acid)
If you have an issue with PPI, have you explained that to your doctor and asked to try a different med (H2 agonist etc)
There are lots of drugs which can cause issues in asthma (aspirin, ibuprofen etc etc) however only the common ones are flagged up as problematic if that makes sense.
Usually just a word to you doc can get them to change the med (for me PPIs give me WORSE reflux, but H2s help!)
Hope this helps!
I read this week that some Antacids contain salicylates, which some asthmatics are intolerant to. If you don't tolerate aspirin then the salicylates in some painkillers and foods should be avoided.
I've not heard of antibiotics making asthma worse, but that's not to say that some may have an adverse reaction - the patient leaflet that comes with the medication usually covers known side effects. It could be the coating or an ingredient used to stabilise the medication that you're sensitive to.
Beta blockers/ACE inhibitors for heart disease and blood pressure are also a group of medications that can affect asthmatics.
Im just getting over an asthma exacerbation after being started on norethisterone and oestrogen gel for HRT to help my hormones calm down my asthma. Seemed to do the opposite! Anyone else experienced this? GP wants to put me on mirena but I'm terrified to have it now after this exacerbation.
Hormone Therapy for asthma, I never heard of it. Can you provide the info on how you got the idea, and the rational behind it?
Infact there are some studies to suggest a link between Hormone Therapy and risk of asthma.
